JVC RC-M90JW they say only the FM radio works. looks like it's missing a knob. looks like it needs heavy cleaning, and no it's not mine.

that looks like a parts box to me......

im.out.of.hear - 2010-06-10 18:33

Thats a shame,it puzzles me how people can treat stuff like that,i could never do that to anything, even if i got bored of something,i would'nt kick the wholly crap out of it,if the item is filthy,i can handle that, but that looks like its ben thrown off the top of a building (more than once)..its criminal !!

the horror!!!

jason1976 - 2010-06-10 18:52

i think its best as a parts box. To me it looks like someone pulled it out of a dump. Maybe they had it in a garage. I am sure it has lots of good parts. I think someone could restore it if they wanted to take the time. someone would need to make some new buttons and a new knob. not sure if that would even clean up. to me it looks like someone would have to remove everything and power wash the plastic to get it clean. How would someone replace the plastic over the tuning dial? or were would you find the part.

I went to http://www.partstore.com and they still sell parts for this radio.

look at this topic. if someone bought the outter shell from them maybe they could make it into a good box.

different box

it would be easier as a parts box take what you need and sell off the rest. i did that once.

jason1976 - 2010-06-10 20:15

It would be easyer. I see it's not the same. If i had one that needed parts i would be watching it. Parts are not cheap from that parts web page.

It looks like the one you have on here. yours looks to be in much better shape.

If it hypothetically sells for short money and is in the US, I'd be interested, because then I could say I own an M90 with a straight face. The speakers likely still work without distortion, and if the aux can be revived via some means, one's got a hell of a box. I'd take the behemoth downtown, crank it by the park, and have a blast. Its poor condition is a blessing, imho. One can freely take it out of the house and use it as nature intended, unlike shelf queen JVCs.

Full disclosure. I bought the Panasonic Ebay RX5600 with the cigarette burns, paint splatter, and missing tape door. Yes - it was once an ashtray, a painter's box, and lived in a punkhouse for a good few years.

you can get some good deals when they need work. this one doesn't look like it's beat up to bad. looks to be mostly missing parts and very dirty. It may clean up nice. I saw a post were you can make new knobs and buttons. but how would you make a new tuning dial cover.

here someone made some knobs for an m90

that box is shot-what a pity

manimal347 - 2010-06-12 07:02

Honestly Jason, I don't think I'd clean it much, and I'd certainly never make new tuner glass. Things die of attrition, including boomboxes. I'd think of mine as the walking zombie that somehow failed to pass over into death.

Course, I'd rather have a mint M90, as scared to look at it as I would be. I'd probably sell it to finance midrange silver boxen purchases, esp. a GE Blockbuster.
