I like the look of Pioneer stuff from this era (late 80s). My brother's first seperates HiFi was all Pioneer with a similar look. It'd probably sound great plugged into some decent speakers...

Ah that Gallic charm is developing nicely, Cris.
Ok, It'd probably sound great plugged into some decent speakers
considering it's a portable. How about that?
Hey Paul, I bought an internet radio today, as you know we can't get FM or DAB UK radio over here but this internet gizmo is pretty cool.
Been Facebooking with Cris about this...
There's an extra speaker available for it to make it into a stereo - another 2pc boomer
& yes, it qualifies - it takes batteries & has a handle.
Not sure how the extra speaker thing works though. I guess it must detect the extra speaker being plugged in & re-route the audio signals as stereo. Whatever, this means there's an extra amp ciruit in the main unit that won't get used by anyone who doesn't buy the extra speaker (i.e. most of 'em).
It's odd how poorly thought out these seemingly expensive products can be. Attention seems to have been spent on the whole internet/wifi part but the easy bit i.e. the interface and the sound quality have been woefully overlooked.
In time I will solder in a line out connection bypassing the pathetic amp circuit & introduce some 1980s hardware to take care of sound quality duties.
That said, a very useful tool if you want to listen to radio stations outside the realms of DAB & FM.
