They don't have tremendously thumping bass, but the sound is very clean and crisp - more so than the GF-777 IMHO. And it can get really loud with quality! I got mine for about $70, and was not impressed. The 20/20 has better overall sound. Most rock has bass, and you'll simply never hear enough of it with this model.

It's a nice looker though.

Bobby, I did hear your advice on keeping this one, but however odd as it may sound its not my kind of thing. I mean, it has this loveable combination of silver and chrome, but I find it just a little too much to take in.

The 9494x is a great looking box even if it doesn't sound as good as it looks. The looks may not be to everybodies liking but that's the case with all boomboxes and that's the way should be anyway. If we only collected boomboxes based on the sound quality or characteristics I suspect there would only be a small percentage of boxes collected and the rest would be junked. That would be a tragedy!

So I say if you like the looks collect it, if you like the sound use it!

I don't think there was a box made that everybody likes or wants, not even the M90.
