Panny 7700 w/ box and manual..on Ebay

baby.boomer - 2008-03-20 09:36

Bashngu, I really appreciate your reply, and your points are well taken. (Sorry, Godsmacked, but here comes another book writing.)

RBJ is right that I've been on this "morality" kick for far too many threads, and I promise it will stop. Granted, I have a thing about "playing fair" on eBay, because I genuinely think that if more people stuck to the rules, we'd all benefit in the end. (I'd hate for eBay to turn into a place where the most convincing message to a seller wins stuff. I'd rather it stay a site of auctions [and legitimate Buy-It-Now's], where bidding is what wins).

But I've made my point, I see your side (and others' sides, too), and I won't whine anymore. Besides, if the seller in this 7700 auction actually invited "best offers," my post was totally worthless.

I will do my best from now on to keep this forum a happy place, altho I think it's probably OK to discuss serious issues now and then, as long as we don't get personal.

And speaking of personal, Bashngu, I don't think you're a bad person. (It would be arrogant of me to make any judgment about you, since I don't really know you.) And I don't think anyone hates you. (Hates me, maybe, yes!) My gripe with under-the-table offers (not requests to sellers to add a Buy-It-Now) isn't about anyone in particular. Many, many bidders do it. It's about the practice in general. But I realize that I've griped about it enough, taken up way too much space on this forum with it, and know that repeated griping isn't going to change things. I need to move on. As you say, it's the way things are. Besides, the "practice," as much as I whine about it, hasn't exactly stopped me from accumulating a snootload of boomboxes.

And so, I will now shut up and be happy with what I've got... which includes a couple of very nice 4360's (dark National Panasonic version of the 7700) that aren't pitted and turn on when turned on. Wink

I appreciate you taking the time to read my response with an open mind and believe it or not, I do value and respect your position on this topic even though we choose to accomplish our goals using unlike methods and perhaps even for different reasons. Smile

Laugh Out Loud

Oh my boombox, what a problem !!!!. Where's the problem ? ...
I'm soo far to deal with ebay fighting ...
Here there's a local version, called Mercadolibre ...
If I would see that baby I bid enoguh to be the winner, no matter the money, altough my salary is only about 800 dollars/month. That's because there isn't any chance of buying this baby again in the whole of my life. Then I can afford this extreme cost because it's once in a blue moon
If somebody advice the seller that it's a 1000 dollar unit, and price rise and rise around this acknolege ... I'll hate this person with all my soul but I still continue bidding to catch the baby, because the baby has no price.
Perhaps the key fact is that all of us want to make the big deal and then say "I bought this National for 200 dollars" ... "Really ?." ... "good score ..."
But the 7700 is a rare machine, no good deals with that exclusive machine. It's being watched by a great number of experienced collectors, and some thinks like I, "I'll bid enoguh to get it, without thinking the money" (of course I'll cry a lot when I'm going to pay it, but money come the next month, and the National not)

a 202 max bid? Uhh ok Roll Eyes Smile

success - 2008-03-26 19:34

For a RX5600 ?

I Agree

For "the" 7700

No No

masterblaster84 - 2008-03-27 08:37

$202 probably wouldn't even get you an RX-7700 parts box on ebay, they sell for a premium.

oldskool69 - 2008-03-27 09:18

Congrats Ira! I guess all those fire sales you we're having got you more than enough change to cover the cost of the UE shipping bags he swindled you into purchasing! Laugh Out Loud You could have done worse, you could have done what I did and bought a box from DANNY! Laugh Out Loud

panasonic.fan - 2008-03-27 09:45

I'm just glad the seller didn't try to claim the radio was NOS. The pics clearly prove that it has been out of the box for a looooong time. Dirt/dust and NOS sealed "in the box" would be mutually exclusive terms.

Looks to be in pretty good shape. Good luck with it Ira, with some elbow grease it should look great in no time.

71spud - 2008-03-27 10:14

I don't think that sellers understand that NIB and NOS don't mean "Used unit stuffed into original box with a plastic bag around it"

Yeah, that plastic bag is a time machine alright....

Sellers use the terms NIB, NOS and Mint way to liberally. Very few boxes ever truly qualify for those descriptions however many sellers use them to describe their boxes.

Congrats Ira, can't wait to see the box after you lay into it! Nod Yes

boomboxnut - 2008-03-27 19:12

Congrats on your win of the RX-7700 RBJ! You got a real nice addition to your collection. Eek Big Grin Wink
