Clairtone 7978

hifibelt - 2008-09-23 10:30

I have a Clairtone 7978 up for grabs. It is *not* in mint condition but the radio and tape drive works. It has both it's antennas & top handle but is missing the battery door. It's dirty, but in the sort of condition that you can tell it would clean up nicely. I have to have $80 for it in order to justify putting it in a box to ship out. I don't plan on auctioning it but if I have to I'll try once. If afterward the money isn't there I simply have no other choice but to *ahem* it. Shipment is from Canada... thank you for reading.

Hi Guys, thanks for the info on the picture posting. I thought image management would be on site. Instead of going through the tinypic routine I just used and old standy I'm familiar with. It took almost two hours to do the pictures and the price I'd mentioned was for sight unseen. I'll have to charge an extra $20 for the time. Shipment, I'd estimate, should be around $60 stateside (from Canada).

What?! Eek You're going to charge an extra $20 for having to post pictures of a boombox your trying to sell? Dude, you have some nerve. No No

Hifibelt's links need a little bit of help:

sinister - 2008-09-24 13:20

sinister - 2008-09-24 13:28

hifibelt - 2008-09-24 13:40

Sorry guys, didn't mean it to be like that but if I had to take pictures I would've charged $100 up front. It's just the time involved. Portable stereos aren't something I normally carry (usually hi-fi audiophile items). This will be my last post in the thread so please make contact via PM/email. Please understand I just stopped into this forum to offer this unit for a collector who really needed or wanted one instead of chucking it. If no one pays by Friday it will go in the bin.

cali9dub - 2008-09-24 13:44

what a tool..."I'll up the price for this box now...if no one wants it I'll throw it out"....I wonder how much he is going to charge the trash guy to haul it away...probably 200 bucks.

ford93 - 2008-09-24 13:55

He will not chuck that radio because he knows it can draw buyers here or on ebay. Sign!

Please save me.

Go ahead! Throw it in the trash!! I wonder if he charged more for his wife after he took pictures of her? Probably had to run a sale instead. Big shot self important business man doesnt have a little extra time to take a few pictures. Was that $20 idea your power sales move or was it your little statement of superiority to us for bothering you for pics? He figured "these compulsive clowns will buy anything"! You are about as clever as a bag full of doorknobs. Assbucket!

So how much do I need to send? Roll Eyes Laugh Out Loud

Hello, there are some very entertaining posts in this thread! A select few levelheaded responses too thrown in for good measure. And yes, it did take an hour & a half to shoot and upload pictures all told. I did end up getting rid of the Clairtone quickly as mentioned. I didn't chuck the unit, but I also didn't sell it either. Boomboxes aren't a normal course of business. You'll have to forgive me if I'm forced to spend my time elsewhere. OTOH, I do get some nice BB's from time to time. Last week someone provided a JVC PC-R550, works just fine and is a very nice machine (I'm not offering it for sale here, just an example).

vladi123456 - 2008-10-19 09:05

Hifibelt, we're normally a pretty friendly community, but you come here and the very first thing you do is you tell us you want money - this is not a very good way to make friends. You wouldn't do that at your local bar - would you? Walk up to a stranger and ask $20 for dropping by? I'm just saying......
And by the way, welcome to Stereo2go

masterblaster84 - 2008-10-19 09:53

Well said Vladi! Nod Yes

The approach in this thread would certainly rub people the wrong way before anything else developed, I think that's what happened here.

vladi123456 - 2008-10-19 10:02

Don, that is a super clean M70!! Although I expected 5350 to make your avatar first Wink

masterblaster84 - 2008-10-19 10:11

Thanks Vladi! Nod Yes

The pictures I took of the 5350 and 7700 just weren't good enough so I dug up a pic of my old M70 that looked cool. The M70 I have now is even better, as in like brand new. I will come up with a better pic eventually, maybe I'll actually try to get creative (not my strong point) with the next Avatar.

vladi123456 - 2008-10-19 10:22

I'm always looking for a M70 in like new condition. There's one on ebay that looks pretty clean - but with almost $900 BIN - it makes me want to laugh at it - not buy it Big Grin
But everybody keeps saying the economy is going to get worse before it gets better, so maybe we'll see more boomboxes on ebay in the next few months.
Also, maybe you could post some pics of your collection - you now have more grails than I do dollars in my checking account. Well, that's because I keep my millions in trust funds, but that's not the point Laugh Out Loud

masterblaster84 - 2008-10-19 10:39

It's surprising that M70's bring such high $$$'s since they are fairly common. I think you just have to be patient and look frequently, I found my Like New M70 by accident. I wasn't looking for another M70 but it popped up without a pic and a stellar Like New description at an M70 low price so I jumped on it. When I received it I was very pleasantly surprised because it really is Like New!

Just an example of you never know when it's going to pop up but you have to look often and be ready. Wink I know I don't have to tell any of you that but it is true.

masterblaster84 - 2008-10-19 10:42

Vladi I do want to take some family photo's of the boxes eventually, it's on my to do list. Free up some of that trust fund, leave your relatives with boomboxes and not cash when you leave this world. Big Grin

Cash keeps losing value thanks to inflation.
Stocks/investments are down.
House/property values are down.
Gold is down.
Unemployment is up.
Banks are failing.

And they laughed at us for putting our money into boomboxes! Razz

Hi Vlad, I do appreciate the sentiment and you're probably right about a bunch of guys becoming online pals after hanging out for a long time. But, in the same breath I wasn't here to do that. (And have no fear everyone, I won't charge for responding.)
I made a choice to offer a product here, at a fair price (sight unseen but description accurate) and for a limited time. Pictures were not offered at the $80 price point - bare minimum I'd need to have it boxed. I see absolutely no issue with offering a rare item to a group of collectors - a venue where it probably would be best appreciated. Simply, it would be *easier* to dump it than to come in here and post up. Like most in here would agree, I also think too much stuff already hits the trash. I should have taken photos and then posted for $100, in retrospect, but I really hate taking pictures - too timeconsuming, especially on a low value item. It's not a car or house, it's a $100 stereo. I've had others buy items that they wanted sight unseen and all were happy, most times with the commentary of the items surpassing described condition. Members might still have a chance at it though as the unit went to a local used goods charity store. There are lots of flippers / garbage waders who frequent places like that seeking tasty game to flip at auction.
