I wonder what prices would be for the DiscoLight if Madge hadn't rubbed her vag on one?
They might have been seen as a joke.
Although we all would have one just for the novelty I think?
I remember a pawn shop in Lansing, Michigan, during the mid-eighties that had a bunch of them lined up along a shelf, near the top of the back wall of the store, where they were all turned on, blinking at the same time, and could be seen when you came in the front of the store. Really gaudy! I wanted no part of such tacky crap. Heck, they weren't even a "real" brand name!
Guess I misjudged that one, huh?
1985
1986
MSRP : $199 (sold $149-169):-)
WOW that was an unbelievable price on those discolites. And now they are outrageous

That price is very believable to me...
A Lasonic TRC-931 had a street price of $125 back in late 1986/early 1987 - at least that's how much my mom paid for my first one back then.
The Lasonic sounds way better tho!

I'd say about what they SHOULD get in good/great condition: about $300.
The Discolite is by far the cheapest made boombox i own...it's low quality however the cool light show makes it worth owning...and friends of mine when they see it in action...they love it and "chuckle"

The very definition of:
Bah...... baaaah!!!!
Those things are Ueber-cheeze...
It said that the item was no longer for sale, so he made a deal or decided to keep it...
No way I'll ever own one of those. Well... if I stubled across one cheap enough in a pawn shop or thrift store, I'd own it just long enough to sell it on eBay.
Wow, I just got flashbacks of 1988 when my buddy up the street from me used to carry that box... Even tho I'm a big LED power meters kind of guy, and I was impressed/somewhat mesmerized by the light show that box gave, I still thought it was overkill.
You know, if those boxes sounded good, I'd really have no reason to knock it. But it doesn't sound good. In fact, it's the worst sounding big box I've ever had the displeasure of listening to.

Well, for sure the price rocketed after Madonna used it in her video . . . .
On the 'one that got away' tip I saw a Disco Lite in a local pawnshop about 4 or 5 years ago, the guy wanted about US$130 for it and I ummed and ahhed too long and someone else eventually bought it. Was just before the Hung Up video happened too and before I started collecting... if only I'd have been more decisive. I learned my lesson early on in that respect; you have to jump on opportunities like that the instant they happen.
Least I know theres someone with one locally.
Rock On.
Yeah the wife wanted one of those a couple years ago and it seemed the price was around $400-$500?? I never bought her one and after that video came out I informed her of the price hike......It's now off the want list.
not so easy to put some 'please others' price on the fun they might bring .
very tricky to determine the $$value of such joy.
but those sheep jokes are lots of fun - right ??
