its painted, if it was the real gold version the color surrounding the alarm button would be black instead of blue. i used to own the gold version several years back. gold is kind of cool but i much prefer the plain ol silver.

It looks nothing at all like the real gold version...all this one has is an amateurish 5 minute krylon paint job
