I noticed some staining to the speaker on the left. Maybe some moisture got in the box at some point..

if that is the case it would explain why one side plays lower than the other .

My Marantz CRS-8000 volume was lower on the left too,at one point almost non existent. It ended up being a dirty power switch. I cleaned it with some RadioShack tuner cleaner and it is fine now.
Both channels working the same.
