Gorgeous bbx, but the BIN is THE real eye popper!

I would like to be the first to congratulate both the seller and the future buyer of this item.

I am happy for you the seller that you will be able to sell this for the price you want or need for it. I am sure you have a sick child or some desperate need for the money so I refuse to pass judgement or make any comments on the value of this item either to myself or to others even via PM. You seem to know your product you are selling is well worth what you are asking... after all it is a SONY. It is most assuredly both "rare" and "vintage" as you say, as I don't recall EVER seeing that same combination of numbers and letters in the last 30 days. Too bad during your exhaustive research you could not narrow down the decade that it was made it as that would have increased the value by a multiple I am sure.

To the potential buyer I would like to let you know that I am happy for you as well. I am sure this radio has some great personal special meaning to you. Perhaps you lost your virginity under the stars while listening to Wolfman Jack or to one of your 13 free cassettes that you had received with the promise of buying one of your choosing at a later date. This is a fine box well worth to you whatever you think you need to pay for it. If I am speaking to you, please just hit the BIN and don't insult the seller with a low-ball offer.

And don't worry about the non-functioning deck... I am sure it is just a belt. A $20 fix from your local Radio Shack.

Yeah, he was the original owner too, and while dusty, still sounded great.

He offered it to me knowing Im a collector, but I passed. I guess I goofed!

I think Daiwa has an older Sony like that.

I had a 580 until several months ago, let it go during my box thinning phase. I can say it's a very cool and unique box, speakers fire out of the front and sides of the box. The 580 is probably the heaviest box of it's size or smaller and even outwieghs many larger boxes, it's a very solid little tank.

The BIN price is very high agreed, but not that far from this recent UK Ebay auction.

The difference is the auction you linked to has a beautiful 580 in near mint and fully working condition, that's always worth a healthy premium.

I got one of these dont know if it even powers up.

Well I tried batteries in mine, nothing. The a/c plug is a weird small one and I dont have anything to plug into it to test. However its all complete. Nothing missing. Anyone wants its, pm me an offer. Not asking alot. However this sucker is probally the heaviest little radio EVER. Consider shipping.

I think it's safe to say that nobody "needs" anything that we ever discuss on this site. There are obviously differing opinions about this. If a seller wants to put a ridiculous BIN out there, well..... people will talk about it.


And opinions will vary.

ok -- i sure do agree that people will WANT talk about 'off-the-charts' ebay listings -it is often funny.

its just my own personal opinion that they might ignore every $$$ ridiuculous ebay listing -

and , instead, post about the good boxes and fair prices that our own s2g members put up every week.

Honestly Ira I have about as much fun talking about boomboxes on S2G as I do owning them. A handful of members (you included) have passed on more than your share of cool boxes to other members and done so in a very fair way, for that how could I not help promote members and their boxes. I may not have purchased many of those boxes from you guys but that's only been a timing issue I think. Actually I've had to fight off the urge on a few boxes from members lately, I'm still not sure I should have passed up the $200 770's.

we should have 'teamed up' and SHARED that crown 970 royal had for sale !!

I do dig the 970.

Perhaps the seller of the "no tape deck workee" 580 will come to his senses soon.
