Okay, granted this is a very, very clean M70...
But $739 Buy it now! And someone bought it!!!!
Wow!
Mucho Expensive M70, not in box
I'm more amazed at how someone kept it so fresh and clean...unreal!
-gsbadbmr
This same M70 already sold a few weeks ago - for $800. Initially it was listed with BIN of $1000 in the very first listing
And a year ago M70s were selling for $600-700 - I sold one of mine for $500 - and it wasn't half as nice as this one!
The funny thing is - M90's do not sell for that much - there's one with $698 BIN right now - with no takers

I think I remember seeing that listing, didn't make the connection...
I guess the other buyer never paid, eh?? Either that, or there's something fishy going on here!
I've heard an M70...and it doesn't sound $800 worth of good IMHO.

If we judged boombox prices on sound quality there wouldn't be many worth $100+.....really?

I don't know why, but this seller just seems pretty arrogant to me - did you see how he answered about the bin price to someone? How he would lower it by $9?
I personally think something fishy going on - I say - it will be re-listed again - soon

You couldn't be more right agentorange. Oldy If your buying/collecting boomboxes just for sound I can direct you to much better sound for the same money, it's called Home Audio gear.
I do have to admit though, I've paid handsomely for a few boomboxes but thank goodness I judge them first on looks, coolness and history to me before sound or there's no way I would have bought them. In fact there's probably no way I would have paid over $100 for any box without the other factors.
ill sell my "gold/champagne" for a grand
masterblaster84 - 2008-12-24 09:57
Sinister I think I would do the same thing If I had a gold M70. Let's see, a plastic radio with gold color or $1000? Granted the M70 is cool and even cooler in gold but $1000 is pretty cool too.
In todays depressed market It's a little surprising to see much of anything sell for over $700. Heck even M90's are having trouble pulling $1000 these days, last year a good M90 almost always pulled $1000+.
so true these words you speak

I understand where both of you are coming from. Aestethics and history count, yes, but what you hear people talk about most is how it (M70) sounds. For me personally there's a threshold point where my expectations rise beyond mere looks. For $800 bucks it better perform like it and not just look good "trying" to sound good.
And of course I have home audio gear. And I don't expect my boxes to compete. (That's ultimate futility and stupidity.) But, as I noted, I expect mine to perform because I enjoy listening to them and putting them through the paces. Kinda like buying an old Ferrari. It looks sexy, is sexy, and when you take it to the track, you expect it to perform sexy.
Would I like an M70? Sure! For $800+? Nope.

No way for any where near $800.
C'mon, Ira... play fair. That $71 is for a crap condition parts box....
But as much as I love the M70, there's no way I would ever spend that much to get one. In that shape I say it might be worth half that much.
And I agree with what MasterBlaster was saying, get some home audio gear for that much money. I'd venture to say that you can get a very complete vintage bad-a$$ stereo system for that amount.
That begs a great question. What components would you buy on ebay right now if you were trying to put together the best possible system..., on a $740 budget.
Here's my shot:
Speakers:
Infinity Kappa 5 $200~ish with refoam kit & shipping
Tape Deck: Nakamichi 582 - $125 from Uncle Ed
(see the off topic forum)
Turntable:
Technics 1600 $65
Receiver -
Yamaha R-8 $160 shipped.
CD Player:
Phillips 3-disc CD-R $120 shipped
OK, so that's a complete system, which gives much more playback and recording options (CD-R & phono) than any boombox can provide. This system would have a great 3-head tape deck, a pretty good turntable, a powerful and excellent Yamaha receiver, a not-so-vintage CD-Recorder and a pair of nice looking speakers that sound great. Total price if all goes well with bids comes to $670, shipped! That leaves some money left over for cables, a turntable cartridge, blank tapes, and blank CDs.
Well, that was fun!
i'd pay 10,000 for an M70 and 25,000 for an M90. moneys no object for me i have brain damage! lol

I personally think that the M70's selling price was fair...especially for it's over-all condition. There will always be buyers out there that are "picky"...so they are the ones that will spend the ca$h to get something nice/mint...i sure do
The problem "i" have with home audio gear is that "realistically" you can't walk around with it outside in the streets nor move it around easily...that's why we have these nice portable boomboxes

If money was no object... I would have a lot more boomboxes and Decentman would hate me
...but it is, so to whomever gets that M70.. you have a very nice looking box..congrats!
Johnny
people collect stuff and they will pay what they want for it.
as for home audio stuff being better sounding.
yeah absolutely it is and well for a lot less to boot.
however there is something about a good boombox radio that holds its own appeal.
to each their own. personally i have way more fun finding things that are really nice and good quality for nothing. for me thats the second best part about getting new boomboxes.
i have decent collection now of found in the wild stuff and thats how i plan to keep finding them. if someone wants to do the ebay thing and pay a bunch of cash then thats up to them.
its all personal choice.

I think we are all speaking for ourselves when we say no way would we pay $800 for an M70.
Market value of vintage gear is whatever people will pay so if someone is willing to pay $800 then that M70 has a a value of $800 for that day. Maybe someday it will have an even higher market value but I'm pretty sure most of us will still say "NO" when it comes to paying $800 or more for any boombox let alone an M70.
so they bought the sucker it was not mr shark was it..
