I sold this guy this boombox a year ago. It is a rare 100 volt Japanese domestic model. I see he has it back up for sale. He is selling it cheaper than I sold it to him for.
My old Panasonic on Ebay
Thanks Skippy!
Is this one of those 'eggs' I should be buying but havent yet?!
I actually really like this one... did it have line in? Auction doesnt say... Also, how does it sound?
Hey Jeff,It is a very nice unit. It sounds great,it is BIamped and has XBS and it does have line in. The cassette radio and cd worked great when I had it. It is the same basic model as the RX-DS45 but this one is the jap model an operates on 100 volts only and has a 24 hour clock instead of the 12 hour clock in the RX-DS45.Here is a thread about it when I got it over a year ago.
RX-DS55 thread.
Well, I bought it. I figured if I waited a day and no one else scooped it up, it's be OK if I did. And I wanted to get it before someone in the "outside world" got their hands on it. Hope I wasn't wrong. If I was, feel free to ream me out via PM.
I remember going ga-ga over this DS55 back when Skippy first wrote about finding it at a thrift store. With a decent BIN (only $6 more than the opening bid), it was hard to resist. A cool, rare boombox. And right up my import-only alley.
Good for you BabyBoomer!! I was thinking of buying it back when I first saw it relisted, but then why? I think you'll really like it,congrats.
Cool that one of us got it!
I was trying to figure how how it would work stacked among all my boxes being shaped as it is... Ha!
The more I looked at it, the more I liked it... but then out of the blue I was offered a grail and I started scrambling for funds, so the money from 'this one' was needed for 'that one!'
Do these come up often? Im going to keep my eyes open....
nice one BB --
it looks like the ds 707 family .
so if it sounds anything like that --
get prepared for a bevy of sonic glee
----------------------
hey JLF -- these DONT stack well !!
Thanks, RBJ, for the good words! I like sonic glee. I'm not quite as sure about bevies, but I'm willing to give those a try, too.
Heck, this is a bi-amped, cobra-like Panasonic. If it sounds anything like the other ones, playing it will turn me into the guy in the chair with his hair swept back in those old Maxell ads. Can't hardly wait to get blown away!!
Jeff, Glad you're OK with this and that you were offered a grail. Sounds like a great deal!
Skippy, I promise to take good care of your 100-volt baby. I've admired her from afar ever since you found her back at the thrift store. Now I get to see her up close and personal! Yippee!! Glad you decided not to take her back.
Had one of these to a few years back
...real boomy sounding...the difference is bi-ampability.
nice one baby boomer.
Reckon you got a bargian there, despite what skip paid when he originally picked it up
It is kind of funny that he does not mention it is 100V in the auction. I don't know if just because it is the Japanese model everyone would know that. Also skip did you sell it on ebay to this guy... funny too because he said "I have not seen this on sale on Ebay before". He makes it sound like he had it sitting around for ages.
Lucky for him the buyer knows what he is buying....
Was kind of wondering about those things myself. I'll post some answers when it arrives.
The box isn't here yet. The seller sent me a nice message, apologizing for the delay and promising immediate shipment. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Just bringing these two threads together so you guys can talk....
Look Here
I just picked one of these up today. I was going to list it on ebay. it is the RX-DS45. It looks nice but is missing the remote. I found a webpage that sells a replacement remote. I am not even sure how much to ask. I think I will just do an ebay listing when I go to sell it. right now I am having fun playing with it. the bass is very good like the other guy said. most likely it will be listed on ebay next week. I get alot of stuff at thrift stores and resell it on ebay. It's how I support my audio adiction.

Sounds like a plan!
I have an rca boombox that I have had since new. was a xmas gift as a kid. it has the compute record and a draw cd player. top load cassette that is auto revese. it has a remote that controls everything also. tape/cd/radio. it has a wake up alarm that you can wake up to cd/cassette or radio and it turns the vol up by itself. I have never seen another one like it. model RP-7977A. it is shaped like an egg also but looks more like a UFO lol it was made in 1992. I was having probloms with the buttons. I would push them and they wouldn't work or would do something they were not to do. so I tried to clean them with control/contact cleaner and now the am/fm radio doesn't work. nothing tunes in all I get is static. I will have to open it one of these days I may need to clean off any oil that the control/contact cleaner may of left inside. it maybe shorting something out.

I think its funny that he didn't check the cassette deck when you can see cassettes in the background.
