masterblaster84 - 2008-06-22 15:58

Interesting Ira, that would be a large undertaking but the payoff would be cool. I wonder how many would be interested? What would it really take to buy the whole lot.
don - all i know for sure is that i will be serious about 'contributing' to the m90 --if others here team up to grab the entire lot --
it does look like there is something for everybody.
holy sh-t -- that wireless toshiba just got added !
masterblaster84 - 2008-06-22 20:04
There are definitely a few I would like to add to my collection.
#1 - National/Panasonic RX-5350 (My most wanted on the list)
#2 - Sharp GF-9696
#3 - Toshiba RT-S933
Possibly even the:
Sanyo M-X920L
Sanyo M-X720K
Sharp GF-9000
I know it's a big wish list but if we have enough interest who knows.
Ya, lots of cool boxes there - if I could only get my life insurance money without killing myself - I'd be all over that collection!!
very tasty selection there MB ----
just think about the big $$total the 5350. the tosh and the 920 with the mics may be worth ?!!
masterblaster84 - 2008-06-22 20:12
I think we know that even if we swing it none of these boxes are going to be cheap. Well maybe a few of the lower line boxes that's padding the collection number.
Right now that 5350 is in my top 5 want list so if I could only get one that would be it.
Those two sealed JVC boomboxes were bought from that Barry Penzo guy last year (remember the girlfriend?!). Anyway, the M70 was supposedly x-rayed to verify that it was indeed an M70 in the box. I believe it sold for close to $1,000.
Learn more about Barry Penzo (yes, it's really him and apparently, he dumped his psychotic girlfriend):

I'm sorry, that collection isn't worth anywhere near $10k. The guy waaaaay overpaid.
hey fatdog. how did you find that!?!?!?!?!
I don't think $10K is too much for his collection - if those boxes are really mint as he says. But it's too much money to spend at once. When I bought M90 - I had to eat noodles for 3 weeks to compensate for the expense. To get his entire collection - one would have to live on noodles for at least a year!
panasonic.fan - 2008-06-22 23:30
You mean, to get his entire collection off of Epay, which 99.9% of the time means that you're seriously overpaying.....
To that, I would agree.
this is potrokhs (wrong spelling) collection right , he bought the sealed jvcs , i recall he was pissed , and rightly so cos they were sent without an extra box round them , hence the ups tape on the box
hit the red buy now tag --then think -- then talk
OK?

Google is your friend.
hey fatdog --thats cool,
need the details !!!
what key words did you hit to google this ?
thanks
Well, for his dating practices, you can just type
barrypenzo into Google.
For the original BarryPenzo M70 thread, I found it using
penzo m70 on Google. Searching using the S2G search function doesn't find it at all. The thread link is at the very bottom and titled "To all interested-My M70 NIB".

That's my thought as well.
I ran some generous numbers and only came up with about $7500 to $8000.
I love that toshiba remote control boombox!
I wonder how much the seller does want for it?
He'd be better off selling all those boxes individually and given the general, wanton disregard for personal economic stability by some eBay members, he'll probably make even more money that way.
Maybe he should contact Francis Sharrak or "that bus driver down in Houston".
masterblaster84 - 2008-06-23 08:18
Fatdog I agree, I think he would do better if he ebay'd each box individually.
I don't know, I find buying a collection that sizable (of anything) defeats the purpose of collecting, and often the excitement and hunt of collecting is equal to, or even outweighs, the enjoyment of actually owning the item.
Well, that's what I think.. don't know why someone would buy a collection unless they're ludicrously rich and want an instant collection without any of the work/reward.
Good luck to him and whoever buys them though.
Rock on.
ya know , ya know --
there is no way any of us can calculate the correct values of all this good stuff --
some members here have found their boxes in dumpsters , and most have bought/won them long before the prices went crazy on ebay during the past few years --
and then to some of our most serious members --an NIB JVC is $$incredible --
and then there is the 920 with the original mics which are worth DOUBLE to some --
and it looks like 4 boxes have SEALED (??) booklets !! whats that worth
good, smart member james67 of canada is a collector of boxes with original accessories, mics, booklets etc --
so then its all sort of worth an absolute fortune to some--
and as little as 1/5 of a fortune to others --
you know what i mean -- right ??
ira sell the truck please so we can buy it
ramon -- i think you have most of those
masterblaster84 - 2008-06-23 12:20
In a way I'm kind of glad he will only sell as one unit, I would spend big money that I shouldn't if he sold them one at a time. Thanks for saving my bank account!
I have $20k. (Theoretically!
)
I do one of two things...
1. Invest in my home and conservative stock in my IRA prtfolio, a CD (Not the ones you play!).
2. Buy a bunch of boxes, THAT, if I am patient enough will land my way one day...a helluva lot cheaper.
Hmmmm...Number one sounds like a winner to me.
its NOT NOT NOT----$20k
the BIN says $12K-
and the starting offer is $10K

Either way...I invest, if I have chunk like that available in my house or retirement. ROI baby.
I think the ideal buyer on this lot would be a single guy in his 30s or 40s - someone who doesn't have children and makes over $100K a year. One who doesn't own any boomboxes yet - but wants to jump-start his collection. And in my educated opinion - a person like that simply doesn't exist!!
So those bomboxes WILL go on ebay one by one - in a few weeks tops
I'm with Oldskool on that - INVEST. And buy boomboxes with the interest money - one by one
this is a rare case where every members opinion is 100% correct
really
I'm very curious to see what happens though. I'd love to get a couple of boxes - but not the whole lot though!!
masterblaster84 - 2008-06-24 08:21
I think Vladi might be right, the right buyer might not exist. I really doubt any newby is going to drop $10k for some boomboxes unless that person has a lot of extra cash and really wants to buy a whole collection. Seems to me the only people who can truly appreciate what's in that collection are collectors already buried in boxes and won't drop $10k or buy a collection that large all at once.
It certainly will be interesting to see how it works out but I expect the seller may eventually break them up into smaller groups or sell them off one by one.
Don, I agree - we just need to wait and see how soon they will pop up on ebay. The only other posibility I see is that some *adventurous* person would buy the entire lot because of one or two boxes that person REALLY wants to have - and then sell the rest of them on ebay. In which case - it still doesn't change anything for us - all the boxes (except for one or two) will be on ebay just the same
masterblaster84 - 2008-06-24 12:10
That crossed my mind for about 1 minute before I started doing the math and realized what I would have to sell the boxes for in order to recoup the investement. My fuzzy math based on ebay prices tells me $10K is a very lofty number for that collection.
Hey Guys,
that doesn't make sense that he would want 20k for the lot. If he's put in 10k into that collection, he's put in too much anyway in my opinion. And if sells a whole collection at once, of course you gonna get less for it than selling them separately. It's just like selling dope. If you buy more its cheaper per gram/kilo/tonne/mega-tonne Think about it guys.
masterblaster84 - 2008-07-02 12:40
I agree completely RADIOHIER, we should get a discount for buying the whole collection. It seems the buyer is looking for a premium for selling that large collection in one lot, that's backwards from the way the free market works.
As someone here already mentioned(royal).I am also pretty sure this is Potrokh. He was always looking for minty boxes and he bought nearly all the BarryPenzo NIB Boomboxes.
