A 50´s revival box from the 80´s. Oh lord. Laugh Out Loud

blasterpunk - 2008-10-28 02:03

I like it! Nod Yes

gluecifer - 2008-10-28 02:14

haha I really like them too. I think Baby Boomer (apologies if incorrect) has all 3 colour variations and some knock off style ones. I'm a fan of the pastel colours from the 80s, and the 50s influence was another common theme in 80s designs.

I recently picked up one of the later models, that were similarly styled, recently:

shes superfreakinminty too.

Rock On.

No apology needed. I collect 'em, I love 'em, and I'm freakin' proud of it. So there.

Gluecifer and drmz are right about how one of the themes in eighties design was fifties (deco) styling. And these boxes have it in spades! Which is why I've managed to snag all the colors (white, red, yellow, blue, green, lavender), along with the mono QT-5 baby brothers (or are they baby sisters?), the knock-off's like from Radio Shack and Lenoxx Sound, and some distant cousins, like Gluecifer's flip-top QT-V40 (which came in an assortment of two-tone color combos).

Actually, these aren't officially "eggs," either. Eggs are later and they're... well.. egg-shaped, like a lot of what's out in stores now. These are arty, design-study "carryalongs" from the Golden Era, same era as the big boys (and they're made in Japan, too).

OK, some folks call them Girlie Radios, but I'm secure enough in my manhood to twirl them on my wrists at football games... until guys with painted faces and chests grab them away from me and stomp them to pieces... on my head.

must bud in here to state that NO EGG has that shape -- NOT even close !!
FOOOLS. Mad Big Grin

its actually a geometric cylinder.

and all with elegance and grace will admire its soft curves and gentle colors --

--------------

quite often -- if any of you are lucky --
you will spot me and baby boomer bopping thru malls together --sporting our Qs -- and always with pre-arranged complimentary pastels-

in addition - we each wear outfits to coordinate 'the look'

check out our act on you tube.

I thought eggs were an early 90's thing.

RBJ is right. In fact, we're having a sleepover next weekend, if anyone wants to join us. Sharp QT's required. And matching pastel jammies. RSVP, please.

redbenjoe - 2008-10-28 09:15

holy moly --
me and BB are just tickled pink -- with the enormous response to our QT sleepover.

you all may be both shocked and thrilled at the variety of 'formerly' prominent members --

who were just closet QT collectors Smile

I wouldn´t agree to that. About Gluecifers 2nd Pic you´re right, but the radio in the auction is a cuboid with large radius chamfers. The shape is closer to an egg than to a cuboid.

baby.boomer - 2008-10-28 12:11

I'd call the QT-50 a rectangular polyhedron with rounded edges. And an attractive, color-coordinated strap. But then, I only got a "C" in geometry.

redbenjoe - 2008-10-28 13:36

is that like a hypotenuse ?
