I found this list on a forum called that I think was called homerecording.com
I'm not sure what year this was from and how the test was conducted. The poster said it was from Consumer Reports.
I always knew Memorex were crap tapes.

I totally agree with the TDK SA-X on top.
Personally, I'm partial to the Maxell XL II-S, but I like the SA-X as well.
I never used the Fuji DR-II. But I can vouche for another Fuji type II, the Fuji ZII. Those are really, really good. I may have to pick up some DR-II's and try them out.
Those Maxells really were/still are good tapes.
My top three for chrome/high-bias would be:
1. TDK SA-X 90
2. Maxell XL-II S 100
3. Sony UX-PRO 90
I wonder why Denon HD8 is near the bottom? I think it is great stuff (on my deck anyway).
I'm surprised that so many Sonys are at the top of the list, above the XL II and TDK SD & SA. Never heard of the TDK SD...
The Sony UX Turbo had a very nice, slim case.

This was not done completely scientific, as there is no way a TDK SD will outperform an SA. Not even close.

The ratings supposedly came from Consumer Reports, I pulled down the information from a forum post on homerecording.com.
I have no idea how the ratings were calculated. Would love to know!
Can't disagree with the SA-X on top. But for normal position - which I used a lot 'cause my deck clipped some highs in the chrome position - the
AD-X couldn't be beat IMHO. Hopefully, if I searched really hard, I could still find a couple lying around here somewhere.
In case any of you are in the market for some good type II tapes, you can pick up a 10-pack of the number 1 tape on this list for $25, which includes shipping. I know they're not C-90's but for this price its worth it to pick up a box or two and save them for a rainy day...
