New blank tape availability
plop - 2013-02-16 11:04
So anyone still able to pop down to their nearest shopping area and buy tapes?
In my local area all I can find is Maxell UR90 cassettes now. There's at least three different shops selling them in packs of two or ten.

Over here in the Netherlands and I guess Germany, you can still order Maxell UR90, Sony HF60/90's and sometimes TDK Ferric 90's over at Conrad.

Yes, there are a number of websites where it is possible to order tapes here in UK too, but I am interested to know if you have been able to go to your nearest shop to buy any new tapes?

Not here in the shitty town where I live. Maybe old stock that nobody wants. I need to ask around XD
Maybe in a big city. I need to check that. Would love it if there were still stores with brand new cassettes for sale.

I bought 4 x FUJI DR II's for...49 pence! All new/sealed and 90 mins each. From my local Cash Generator. They turn up in all manner of places.

In Leicester we have several shops where you can readily buy numerous el-cheapo tapes and stocks of TDK D and SA are plentiful. SA90's are about a pound each. I did the rounds about a year ago and found a twin pack of SA-X, A twin pack of MA and even an HXS90 which made my day because they were my favourite tapes years ago.
They are definitely out there.

Yes they can still be found in ontario canada, the dollarama carry them still think their Maxell normal bias at a dollar a piece and a record store in the downtown core of hamilton ontario still carry's them but again no more nice tape's,Gone like the wind, just gotta keep your eye's peeled when visiting the good ole flea market's or thrift shop's.

The website above uses Geo-location tech, and being across the pond I can't see this "blue light special". Be that as it may, have you been able to pop down to your local K-Mart and pick up whatever it is that happens to be on offer in the link above?
andyboombox - 2013-02-20 07:19
i picked up 6 sealed tdk c90s from a thrift shop on friday for £2.50....not bad at all
gearwheel - 2013-02-23 18:29

I just go to my Climate controlled storage and get a few cassette's when needed as i bought quite a few Cassette's when the Dominant format was CD for recording and DRM = digital rights management - came into being and I didnt like that restrictions for recording. I thought that the cassette's may be going on their way out so I bought what I consider now to be a few lifetime's worth of New blank cassette's.
Wish I had the foresight to purchase the Metal alloy frame ( TDK MAR ) in bulk - I could be rich by now. I only bought the Type II and Type IV cassette by Maxell or tdk - Mostly I have TDK cassette's - that's my story.

Hi Plop,
Looks like the even welcome UK buyers, hopefully you'll be lucky finding some of the Blue Light Specials. The site even says they'll calculate all duties and taxes and give you the option to prepay your online total to avoid future duty or tax adjustments.

Yeah, that's all I get... a welcome to UK buyers page and no direct link to the product that Brutus was referring to. I guess this offer is not available to us 'aliens'.

That is a lot of Maxell UR. Did you buy any?
The cheapest for Maxell at my local shops here is 43.5p for each UR90 from a 10 pack at £4.35 GBP in the UK, but availability is sporadic. I usually buy it all they have when they have it in stock, at least for now until I have stockpiled enough.

Late reply...it looks like the link has been disabled for some reason because now I get the same issue but for Canadian buyers.
We aliens will have to source out some others I guess
The link did work for several days though.....

Mostly the Maxell UR-90 here too at the dollar store.
But they do sell as the self goes empty
and they re-stock again.
There many cassette users still out there.
Another place to find cassettes
is the office supply stores
they usually have cassettes and micro cassettes too.
