looking for one for a art project... anyone??
hi boxsearcher, those boxes are getting a bit hard and very expensive to come by, good luck on the search.
ye i agree with DT, it,s not often you,ll see a discolite for sale anywhere.
maybe you should go for a super jumbo, lots of lights and stuff like the discolite, and more available

i agree,i'de rather have a J1..i've had the discolite, they look good with the lights and stuff but they sound awful, thats the reason i got rid of mine..i cant understand why they fetch so much..
i wanted a discolite for like forever, but once i owned one,i now know what there really like..poor quality, and poor (irritating) sound..
i never knew that G,MAN
ive never heard or seen one but i thought they may sound good, especially considering it has a 100 watt graphic written on the front.
so it,s all talk an no punch then eh...hmmm

This was the old girl lav, sold this about 3 years ago..
i know theere called discolite,i think they should be called discoshlte..
The lights are good though..
discosh*te
love it
i gotta say though lookin at your pic, it does look a nice box, cheap looking ye for sure but i bet it looks amazing in the dark, are you not gutted you got rid with the rareity of them now??
im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-16 15:58
hmmm nahh,i liked it for a while, but when i got bored of the lights, there was nothing else to like...i bought it for £150,kept it for about 2 years or so,then sold it on for £200..
ok 2 years of fun and £50 profit, that,s a win for sure
after looking at the pic you put up i would,nt mind having a go at one of em, i can imagine it sat there in the dark playin some good old 80,s electro with all them lights flashing, yeh...
im.out.of.hear - 2010-07-16 16:18
yeah it was'nt a bad deal..my mate went on and sold it for £380..
here is a youtube vid of a d.lite
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4f9gqXCOrI
most boxes dont come anywhere near close to the bass of a kaboom
or the highs of an s90 --
but the discolite has an effective 7 slot equalizer --plays plenty loud -
and - when its kept below its distortion curve
i think it sounds terrific --
then --add the visual impact -which is second to NONE ...
not the best sounding, or best looking, or highest quality but one of the highest money makers out there, the sound is very good for being a very cheap made box, plus the disco light show that it puts out, definately a huge score if you find one out there in the wild.
interesting quotes guys, sounds like theres mixed feelings about this box
thanks for the vid link too G,MAN i enjoyed watching it

yes i'm with hugo on this,if you can find one cheap enough in the wild, your on to a winner !! the light show is great, for flashing light entertainment, its the best !! better than the rest..and ira, that is an excellent "funky effect" pic of the discolite !! did you do that yourself ?
thanks GMAN --
that effect gets done by using the zoom-
while taking the shot

Ahhh right,i never knew that..its a great effect..looks abit like art work, actually that would be great as a piece of art on my wall
and what would make it really stand out, would be to fit Led's in it..
something like on this pic..

Yeah, they look great when the lights are going but the sound absolutely sucks! It's the worst sounding box I've ever heard and that was way back in 1988 when they were brand new.
Still, that shouldn't stop anybody from wanting to buy one.
hey mono --
back in 88
either your ears or that box was defective
Looking back, I think the owner of that box might've been "defective".
I stick by what I said about the Discolite sound quality, but he also owned a Conion C-126 at that time... If the the TC-999 is basically the same box, mine sounds rather good NOW and his C-126 sounded weak on everything THEN. He probably wasn't good with an EQ or bass and treble controls, in effect making both boxes sound worse than they should have. What do you call that? "Operator error"?
mono --
its hard for us to do 'the percentages' about sound quality --
we both really like/respect the 931 -
and we might agree that our tc999s are 90% as good as the 931 -
then --imho - the discolite is 90% as good as the tc999
which still = VERY GOOD !!
but -the real and only reason that some of us love these $$ is the thrilling nightly lite shows they all produce

i agree with both of you, like i say,i was'nt impressed with the sound of mine, but the light show was amaizing, and everyone who seen it,had never seen anything like it in there life, they were blown away, and because of that,i dont think they noticed the bad sound too much, they were too mezmorized with the lights
i agree there G,MAN
ive just had my tec super j booming for an hour for my kids, they love music and they like it on that particular box because of the lights.
i too love lights on it even though theres nowhere near as much as the dynasty, but still like you say the lights distract you away from the sound
having said that the tec sounds quiet good for an empty box
summer is here, so bring out the beer and your 777 or your m70 or m90 and your disco light, take turns blasting them out, do you know what box stands out? thats right the DISCO LIGHT!!!!
by then everyone around is asking to keep the disco light on. lol
SAD BUT TRUE,
its simply more fun. period
disco's not dead!!!
