If I knew the part number (RC-xxx) I wouldn't even post this.
This was a mono JVC box from the late-1970s.
It looked an awful lot like an RC-838 in that it had a 6.5" woofer and 2.0" tweeter behind a square metal grille (colored black I believe, and the grill itself had a coarse texture not unlike the speaker grilles of an RC-838).
It also had an LED VU/battery meter with both red and green LEDs, and it had a cassette deck on the left side with front-mounted keys and a bar underneath the keys to protect them during a face-first tipover.
Does anybody even have an idea of what JVC part number this ghetto blaster might have had? And does anybody have one in working order that they'd be willing to let go?
Thank you ahead of time!!!
Edit a short time later: Added the word "square" with regards to the speaker grille shape.
Give me a try...

The RC-345 looks to be the closest match; though I could have sworn that the buttons/keys for the cassette transport were on the front of the unit below the cassette door rather than on the top of the product.
Nice BBX borwsing on the BBDB, excelent Job Jens. Congrats
thks success -still a lot of work...

I honestly have no idea what the JVC RC-550 (any version) sold for when it was introduced in 1982.
When I purchased my RC-M70JW in mid-1982, Albert Dick (one of my housemates at the Juneau Receiving Home at the time) came up with an RC-550, but I never thought to ask him how much he paid for it.

My memory isn't rock solid but I believe Pacific Stereo was selling the RC-550 for either $300 or $400 back around 1980.
Well somebody offered me 2K for a NIB JVC RC550 and I just want to see how far off I am crazy to take this person up on this offer ...

i hate to say, but M70 was introduced in 1979, and RC-550 as well (or.. year earlier). even hi-tech M90 appeared in 1981.

When I purchased my RC-M70 at Alaska Music in downtown Juneau AK. USA in mid-1982, there was also a flyer showing people on stylish motorcycles carrying an RC-550, an RC-656, an RC-M70, (and possibly) an RC-M80.
The flyer indicated that these were *NEW* products; I also do not remember seeing any of these machines prior to this (and I was a frequent customer of Alaska Music since the late-1970s); that's primarily how I obtained my date of introduction data.
