hey guys i am looking for a pair of turntables in great shape, either for trade or for sale, let me know.
matrixambience - 2008-09-28 18:42
Ahhh yes!! Bar none, the best turntables made! I have 3 of them and won't part with any of them, but I bought the 3rd one just a few yrs. ago on a website for like $400 brand new in the box.Good luck in finding a pair of 1200's.
yeah id love to own one at least once again sold my pair more than 10 years ago and missed them...right now i cant afford one...maybe in the future...a timeless design the 1200 TT...
what you price range drip. i might know someone or pm me and we can talk
I had 3 pair and am down to 2 pair...here are my favorites I've ever owned:
I had 4 pairs, down to 2 pairs now.....wouldn't part with them. Good luck though!
ahh, the 1200 gld's! I old roommate bought a set and I love looking at them!
Dang Cali9dub you have my favorite Technics gold, when I was on the hunt for them I could'nt believe how they hold up on the price. I decided to settle for a pair of SL1200M3D's which in my opinion are good. The gold Technics someday I'll own a pair. Unbelievable Technics has been selling these 1200's since way back and still they are going strong.
Hey Driptip,
If you live in a metro area and have any around you, hit some pawn shops...
I see 1200's here in the Tampa area all the time. And they sell for as low as $150 each.
I have two MK3Ds and love them... but the MKII's are still pretty much the industry standard for DJs.
The difference between the M3D and the MKII is that "lock" button for the pitch control on the M3D, which eliminates that annoying little notch in the pitch control slide. If you are trying to beat match and are hovering close to that zero mark, that notch on the MKII can be a bit of a hassle. Typically, you will pay a bit more for having that button on the MK3, but if you DJ and like to do longer mixes, it is definitely worth it.

All true, I submit, if you did get an MKII for beat mixing, you can "break" the quartz lock and the new 0 pitch becomes plus one with no quartz push pull sync and truely acts in a very very BPM friendly feedback mode. For the arguement of losing +2 on the positive pitch end, anyone that has to deviate more than +/- 8% IMO is not a skilled BPM mixer. It becomes completely unnatural unless your doing pitch bending for slow/fast BPM break beating as an instrumental.....which then yes would be very useful, but would still have +/-14% vs 16% with the two percent loss.
Also, there is an internal pot that can be adjusted after a quartz break to restore 0 to 0 with the same motion feedback but then again, you'll have to deal with the notch at zero.
Both ways are effective for BPM if an MKII is what you end up with.....

I'd hate to tell you what I paid for those GLD's...although they were way cheap compared to $1600.00 ea. retail...

I snatched a pair of Numark HDX's which are the cat's pajamas...too bad they discontinued them. Having the hard drive to mix/scratch from is the BOMB !!
oh...here's the hdx....
On my GLD's I replaced all the LED's with yellow ones to match all the gold...they look TIGHT !! (sorry pic is blurry) take a look:
Those yellow LED's look great Cali.
LOVE the mod! I wish I had time to spin records like that again. Nah, not really...but I did DJ on the side at one time and I would have nothing but the 1200's! I sold mine ages ago when I kept gettting deployed, got married and had kids.
Damn, growing up sucks!

I still DJ (parttime), and I still use my 2 1200's with the Stanton 680 HP cartridges on the standard headshells and they sound spectacular! I will NOT succumb to the laptop DJ disease!! I repeat...will NOT!

Damn right! Either you do...Or you DON'T!
The Ortofon Arkiv's are great cartridges for recording from vinyl to digital. I love them now even for regular use.
thanks for all the info guys, and i thought i was the only one. hahaha
hey Cali, those are really nice.
I rock the Shure M447's great scratching needle that holds the groove like super glue. I still like to cut it up live every now and then at the local bars here...soon to be 41 y/o and people trip when they hear me scratching. Funniest comment was " I haven't heard that **** since Jazzy Jeff live at Union Square" ..lol All because I started cutting up "Bite it" LOL

These are the GLD's not LTD's. GLD's are a gold version of the M5G, while the LTD's are a gold version of the M3D's
Here is my Set:
Notice the "Rust"-Faceplates. I bought them with the 1210´s 10 years ago and had an Ecler SMAC32 with matching Rust-Design. (You can see it on the left side next to the sanyo receiver) But the Faders were´nt that good so I switches to an Ecler Hak320 later and now I use this heavy Vestax.
Technics rocks!
BTW. I saw 2steppas technics boombox clip at youtube. Did they have just this model? Maybe a 1piece radio?
Wow, guys! There are some nice setups in this thread... I think there are more DJs that are part of this forum than I thought!
Here's my home DJ booth...

I have found that programs like Serato (which I use) that allow analog maniuplation of MP3s via vinyl control records (on my trusty 1200s) are a good compromise.
In fact, so much good music is not even making it to vinyl nowadays that programs like this are becoming a necessity for us vinyl junkies.
As for working straight from a laptop, forget about it!!! No way, never!
I had a couple of MP3 capable Denon CD players for a while, and I sold them immediately after I got Serato.
The feel of a 1200 is second to none.

What is the trick to download software from there? I registered, they send a code, it takes it......I go to download the live software.....nothing downloads, page refreshes and nothing but that same crap over and over......????
Am I missing something?
[/QUOTE]
Whats up with th TU-9900 tucked away under there...don't hide that !!
@cali9dub: I never saw one of those 1210´s. What are the LED´s next to the pitch for? Looks like they can change colors. They show the pitchlevel?
Anyone use the Stanton ST150 turntable? I know DJs are loyal to the 1200, but the ST150 is a REALLY nice turntable. Opinions?...

Kitt, what software are you trying to download from where? If you're trying to get the Serato software, it does you no good without the USB box that you plug the decks into...
Cali, as for the TU-9900, that's all the space I have for now. There's an M-50 Yamaha power amp and a Nakamichi RX-303 hiding down there, too.
I read this on needledoctor.com
"Remember what turntables DJs used in the club before the 1200s? Nobody else does either."
that about sums it up.

Stanton should just stick to making needle cartridges, the 1200's are the king! I am a Vinyl Junkie too, but my laptop is used for emails, chatting online with you guys, and putting music in my itunes library for my ipod that I only use when I (try) to work out or go for walks...laptops,serrato,virtual vinyl or whatever they call that high tech mumbo jumbo should not be in the same sentence with actual records/analog.
ok guys this is why i need to up grade.
quote:

The LED turns on when you are quarz "locked" at zero % pitch. When you move the pitch slider up or down off of the zero, then the LED goes dark.
matrixambience - 2008-10-01 19:55
Wow! There is nothing wrong with that setup!
is good for mixing but not for scratching, thats the thing.

LOL! man, those are a biatch to try mixing with... They fluctuate speed big-time and are very finicky. I had a pair when I started mixing as well and almost gave up DJing altogether. 1200s are at least three full letter grades better. I ended up giving them to my brother after I got 1200s. Then he ended up getting rid of them even sooner than I did.
1200 torque rules!
i hear you jt, and yes with this pair you have to be fast to help with the fingers STOP AND LET GO. HAHAHA
matrixambience - 2008-10-01 20:12
..well, I don't "scratch" anyways, so I guess those lower-line Technics wouldn't bother me.

Partially correct...on the M5g's the pitch numbers are lit as well(based on whether you are running at +/-8 or +/-16), however they do not change colors and are always illuminated.
Thanks, that interesting. This single led I know from every MK2, but the line of led´s next to it is looking very special. I guess the colorchanging came from the camera. In your second picture it looks like the upper one turn more to orange and the lower ones more to green. I guess they are all orange, matching the gold-look, right?
So whats up with technics boomboxes? Any other models beside the one 2steppa shows on
youtube ?

I use trackmasters for the road (older red version) and ortofon concorde's for transfer to digital.....both are sweet.....
The Concorde Arkiv E/E are the bomb the specs on these are great.

My bad, but I thought the question was about the LED on 1210's? AFAIK the 1210 is basically just a dark version of the 1200 MKII.
BTW, has anyone ever seen a 1200 MKI?
JT...you never answered why you were hiding that TU-9900 under your recording set up.....what other vintage goodies do you have tucked away?
Here ya go Calidub taken from page (2).

whoops missed that reply...thanks ford !!
