Wanted possibly any box (UK)
sega - 2011-08-16 10:31
Theres no rush to this, I just thought Id put an ad in and perhaps if theres any that people have got for sale, budgets not mega high though so dont offer me something that you want hundreds of pounds for but its not as low as before.
I dont want a total dog of a box as Im very limited in electrical repair skills, dont mind a few battle scars though as my other boxes have them.
I dont want multiples of the same box so please dont offer a Hitachi TRK8110E or Panasonic RX-DS660 and Im not into the late 80's/90's boxes.
I ask for UK only to keep costs down, Im not really able to pick up either unless its really local.
Like I said theres no rush, if you have something nice let me know and Ill take a look, I am looking in other places too so I may suddenly say close thread.
So heres the summary:
Working as much as possible
Not mega expensive
Can be any size
Must be of the older styles so nothing as young as me.
Thanks in advance

Ive changed the title, I know how bad shipping to and from the USA is cost wise, I do a bit of vintage diecast collecting and restoring and one of the best guys at it is based in the US and I sent him a part to be duplicated that weighed only a few grams and was about the size of our 5p coin (Tonka Beetle headlight) and it cost about the same as posting the complete car anywhere in the UK.
Sadly I cant travel to the US but thanks anyway though.

Sounds like a few morons Ive seen on some of the forums Ive been on, one even returned in various guises on the RG forum, one even claiming to be his solicitor saying he was on the run for Gambling debts, another got Moderator powers under the belief he was a trustworthy member as he had been around for quite a while and made many friends, he sent the forum into a meltdown which took quite a while to fix.
From what Ive seen so far Ive not seen anyone here that leads me to belive they would cause trouble, you defintely do not seem the kind of person who is likely to turn nasty.

Try to get a back-up cpu for your main cpu. dont quite know just what a ( toshiba MSX computer ) is after searching the web for one - only seen really Old keyboards permannetly connected to the computer like my Franklin - - - hmmm maybe the world is ready now to watch the boot process of the the ole' franklin LOL
also try and get a back-up for your laptop if you are liking to use one ...
plus we utilize a portable notebook sized usb powered 250gig notebook sized Hard-drive to move stuff around from one cpu to the other or from the camera straight to the portable drive then take the drive to the main cpu to upload on a wired link rather than useing the wireless link.... sorry getting too involved here...

The MSX isnt a modern machine, its a 8-bit all in 1 computer realeased in the early 1980's, it has a built in port for software cartridges or there is a connection for a cassette deck on the back as it was common for home computers from this period to use cassette tapes as a software medium.
Basically you turn it on and it gives you a blue screen where it should have a blue screen with the MSX logo popping and then the disired software starts up.

well Mine only has the 5.25 Floppy-drive and it has many extra ports
and i guess I need to get it down and make a video of it ...
I was correct when I googled for the infor that you had there of the (all in one keyboard + computer ) this is Just Like My ( Franklin Ace 1000 computer ) google that !!... and the first link you come to - at least over here will show at the top of the page - the keybard and computer connected - or all-n-one-piece computer just like the working one that I have here and no you cannot connect to the internet with it as i dont have a 2400 baud modem for it ... remember 'baud' ???
sega - 2011-08-22 16:54
Ive heard of it but being born in 1990 it was 56k Dial up by time I was old enough to understand the internet, I still remember the noise as its not too dissimilar to the noise when loading cassettes on some 8 bit computers, I acctually mute the TV when Ive got my spectrum +2 going because after about 5 minutes it gets rather irritating (the +2 is an all in one too but it has the tape deck as part of it and its thrown its belt atleast once).
I do remember 5.25 disks though as a form tutor kept a few BBC micros from back when they were used in schools to teach computing and he taught us to get the computers to load the disks to play a game.
well I have Microsoft Windows 3.1 on 5.25 Floppies
Now If I had a computer with a drive that size that could load this operating system on it ... I wonder how fast it would on work on Present day computers processor speed ???
billy.the.binman - 2011-08-28 14:08
we used to have an msx back in the day. i remember the whole sensitive operation of loading up tapes to get some thing to run. arcenoid, froger, scorcery, pac man and a few others were the favourites
sega - 2011-08-28 14:20
Oh tape loading is a pain lol especially when you have spent sometime waiting for it to do its thing and it decides to crash on you.
I had to replace the MSX in the end, one of the chips was fried and no longer able to function, Im still technically up on the deal from when I bought it as the games are worth the fiver easiley and I should be able to get a little back for it in parts as everything else looks alright.
