THANKING RAMON for another super deck save --
for the awesome sounding AW-1 from the 80s -
i was in a race to cop an old Tone Loc tune off the radio --and hit too many deck buttons at the wrong time -- and the deck locked up -
coudnt even open the eject -as it stuck in record -
quick trip to old ramons --
funny part was that with no manual , he had to take the entire box apart -
just to learn that the box does not have to come apart to fix the deck
anyhow - want to report that the big Bose has an extreme high quality build --and
the big surprise (to us) was that this world famous bose wave system is MONO !!
more important --i want to re-thank ramon for a very gutsy repair
yes the bose wave radio has been Mono a very LONG Time :-)
the fm reception is stereo -- so if we record - we get a stereo recording --
likewise for the inputs and outputs --
but for listening - its just one little motha of a speaker --
sure sounds nice though with serious boom boom bass
----james or anyone - do you know if all the current bose wave models are also still mono ?
WTF the bose system is mono lol any chance of a pick ira just to clarifuy the unit in question, if it's the unit im thinking dont they cost over a k or something crazy like that.

It never occured to me that's the case. I currently have a couple of Bose Wave's, big and small so now I'm really curious.
even me i was surprized when i went and dug in the sucker only one bose woofer, i was in shock i thought it had 2 speakers so all that sound goes though a bunch of small ports

Are you saying one woofer and two full range drivers in the top two speaker grilles or are you saying one speaker total? Bass can be mono without effecting stereo output of the full range drivers, I'm hoping that's the case.
tim -- this is a bose AW-1--
they have been sold in every major country for over 20 years --and i will guess that you can easily buy a minty one over there for about US$200
and dont let the mono thingy bother you -
these little boxes sound tremendous --
and more solid that ANY box
Thanks ira i thought that was the one in question, i was just questioning my sanity
but sadly if it's mono im totally not interested, surly it has 2 stereo speakers in it plus a sub, i find it truly amazing that this is mono. A good friend of mine payed hundreds for one of theese, he was gunna audition it for me but sadly he passed away.

I agree!
If they repackaged this into a proper old school boombox it would hammer just about every true boombox ever made.
Can anyone tell me how this BOSE wave radio compares to a Panasonic DT680 as far as bass goes?
the bose is not louder than the 680 -but it is MUCH more genuine and SOLID sounding

Thanks man! I've always wonder how it sounded in comparison to my 680. I personally have not heard a boombox that has more bass than it. But I'm always on the prowl for one. And every since I've been introduced to the BOSE in my Maxima (97), I've been really impressed with what they do with such small speakers. I just wondered if that was also the case for the wave radio. And for me, the only thing I have to compare that to is the 680.

I once ran a frequency sweep from an auto stereo tuner disc and was able to get some output from the Bose at 40hz which surprised me, I really didn't expect it to produce anything under 50 or 60 hz.
yup MB --its got that special sound --that we cant describe well in words --
and it is a portable with a handle if we have the carry bag.

I like it, so if I throw a mini home stereo in a duffle bag with 50lbs of batteries I can call it a portable?
Bose is so close to having a true portable here, another inch on bottom of the case for batteries plus a fold down handle and it would be a true boombox.
don - its a custom bag made by bose just for these models --so does that COUNT
-
as a portable ?
masterblaster84 - 2008-08-08 22:41
I got it Ira but just throwing out a what if.
I considered getting one of those bags for my wave but the nice ones sell for around $100, seems to high for me.
i 100% agree -don ,
bose was on the way to the perfect boombox -
if they only had provided for a built in battery box and a handle --
the bag fits just right - but still...
Nope as Bose call's it a (travel case) for traveling.
see here Travel Case for Bose® Acoustic Wave® music system ll Purchase by September 30, 2008, and receive a free travel case valued at $149.95.
Not a portable, Sorry !

James you are correct! The bag you have the link to is only a Travel case, no built in power. What Ira and I are talking about is the travel case that holds 10 D batteries to power the Wave, see the link.

James, please use the URL feature to post links, especially for long ones.
Also, haven't you figured out how dumb it looks to speak about yourself in the third person?

It was only cool when THE ROCK did it!
Gettin' back to the Bose... I've known a few people with 'em over the years. Those radios kick ass! That's prolly the only Bose product I would buy. Then again, I'd add the old 901 speaker system and make it a list of 2.
