I can post details but long story short is I bought a $40 BIN boombox on ebay. Paid 2 business days later. Seller shipped out the box, not too quickly, but OK. It arrived shoved in a thin box with only one layer of bubblewrap. Of course it was severely cracked. I contacted the seller and he immediately went off the deep end, saying it was not his responsibility. It went back and forth, he got more irate. I filed a PayPal dispute, escalated it to a claim right away. I got an email from ebay to call them. I didn't call, so they called me. After talking with them they gave me an IMMEDIATE refund and said I could keep the radio for parts. I was to cancel the PayPal dispute when the refund showed up in my account. In the meantime PayPal ruled in my favor even offering to pay for my RETURN postage. I got the ebay refund, canceled the PayPal dispute and emailed the seller (nicely) saying that I got my money back and was canceling the PP dispute. I could have left it open and messed with his account. I could have left him negative feedback. I did nothing. Now he claims to have a girlfriend about 3 hours away from me and the next time he is up here... well that is where the physical threat comes in.

I don't think it is wise to leave things as they are... the nut job just might do something.

Advice?

me i would find out who the girlfriend is then make a deal with her and tell her to ask her boyfriend to take a hike

if you really are concerned, call the police. no one else can really do anything.
but hes most likely talking rubbish. if you really wanna put him off tell him you'll give the police his details etc and he'll be quiet.

forward all of it to ebay and let them know.

Personally I am just going to add him as a "favorite" seller. Then ebay will kindly let me know when he does try to sell something. That is if the $54.95 charge-back has not wiped him out to the point he can no longer float the listing fees....

For the record I would have accepted half-back on the selling price ($20) and used the RC-65 for parts. I think that would have been fair. But there was no dealing with the guy from the beginning. I never even had a chance to offer. He refused to even have me send him a picture of the damage. Well he has one now....

I had a guy get lippy with me about a sanusi amp that was exceptionally poorly wrapped. It showed up warped and contorted. It was horrendous. He claimed he watched his friend package it up and put two layers of bubble wrap. But, the bubble pads were the huge 3" x 5" air pockets and they all burst. What an idiot! Sells something on ebay and doesn't even wrap it himself??!!!

Anyway, I put pictures up on tinypic.com and put the links to the pictures in the ebay messenger service. That way, if ebay were to investigate the claim, they could actually see the pictures themselves and it would be a no-brainer.

As soon as I sent the message with the pic links, the guy shut up and refunded me immediately. He knew my case was solid.

Tell you idiot seller to make sure he comes by on a Friday, as you host the regular weekly meetings of the local NRA chapter. You and your friends Smith, Wesson & Baretta will be there waiting for him!!!

I Would suggest to be careful tho, he could be jocking or he could be just a nut case that all he cares about is revange. keep all emails like ford93 says and try to leave him alone. if he dont emails you back just forget about him.

Don't worry I would never escalate the situation by making personal comments about him. (No matter how tempting it is) I tried to keep it all about the transaction.

Besides.... I am sure he is just a very bitter and unhappy person in general. I will sleep peacefully knowing he is probably constantly miserable about one thing or another.

I've seen these irrational Hot Heads spew their garbage time and time again through various friends and family and I've yet to see any of them follow through on their threats. It's all about intimidation and control and it's to much work to follow through on for these simple minded people.

Absolutely the best way to handle it is to document it and move on, you already won so you can only lose something at this point by pushing it. Definitely take joy in knowing you have a great happy life and this retard will sink back into his black hole of a hateful existence.

I've seen it go the other way too guys....One time this guy I know sold and Arcade game and when the person got it home it didn't work. Very common for something to jiggle loose in transport and is usually something simple....

An email war started like this one and the guy ended up coming back and trying to break down the door. My friend wasn't home but his wife and newborn were and she was scared to death. That's a pretty awful situation.

The cops were called and a complaint was filed but sometimes life is too short for that sort of thing. I'm not saying don't fight, I'm just saying be careful.

Well said. Suggest you don't reply to any more emails unless you send one that says could not be delivered to recipient (styled to look like the kind of automated email your ISP might send). That way he'll give up using your current e-add.
