I recently won an auction of Jeff's - he was selling a Rising SRC-2015. I still can't believe nobody else bid on it!
Anyway, it showed up in the mail yesterday and let me tell you, I almost couldn't get it open.
I had to cut through 13 layers of packing tape, 3 layers of reinforced packing tape, and then slice away 48 strips of masking tape. That was just for the outside box!!
Once I got to the inside box, I had to pull out the Dremel to crack the seal. I was somewhat tired by that time, but extremely elated to finally get to the Rising. However, my elation was short-lived when I saw all the bubble wrap. Oh... my... gawd! It was the bubble wrap from hell.
I had to call Jeff and have him send me the blueprints for the bubble wrap in an e-mail. After looking them over for about an hour, I was finally able to get a corner loose enough to start the unveiling. Seventeen minutes later
, I finally unwrapped the Rising.
There it was in all its glory! I have to say that it was in much better condition than I was expecting. Yeah, it has a few issues, but hey, I've got another Rising!
I still haven't decided if I want to restore it or turn it into a project box. I have a lot of ideas that would make it totally badass - but, we'll see how it goes.
If you ever get a chance to bid on, or buy, a JLF box, you absolutely won't regret it. You will, however, need to take the day off just to open the box.
Thanks, Jeff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's great Fatdizzle!!! Don't let me tell you how many WEEKS it took me to unpack the PH-480 I bought from him.
BTW...I've got an idea for that extra Rising!
JLF is Just Like Fantastic as a seller.
nice going jeff --
GREAT story bobby
it was easy to picture the entire unwrapping event --
with the dremel and the blueprints
Ira, there MAY have been SOME exaggeration in my story
(not much), but in all seriousness, it was quite comical trying to get the Rising out of the packaging. Jeff did a fantastic job with it. Much better than plain, old, brown paper bags and Scotch tape.
bobby -- as a coincidence --
yesterday i sent jeff a box about twice that big (really) --
and now i sure wish i had used some tape and bubble wrap --but the box was such a POS anyway ....
so i just used the 'easy-open' //plug 'n play pack -
its called "THE HAIL MARY"
Yeah Ira, Since the box I sold Bobby needed some work, I thought about just hanging a tag off of the handle with his address on it.
He said thats all you ever do and somehow your boxes still arrive in good condition!
Well, I gotta say I sold DM4Y a box last week too, and when I dropped it off at the UPS store, the gal drug it across the counter top and just let it fall the four feet to the floor!!!!!! ARGH!
I made some noise about it and got attitude in return.
Its why Ive learned to over box now days!
Thanks for the props and a fun thread guys!
Jeff rocks out,hardcore for sure!!!!

you should have gotten more than attitude for that , it should have been free shipping !!!
Cause when I got it
it took me a long time to get the cassette to work at all
.... had me worried there about the cassette NOT working
... as IT DOES Work now !!!
... More to Follow laterz...
Well, I said something, and she yelled back at me, 'Its gonna get a whole lot worse than that!'
I nearly asked for the manager right there and then... but I thought, hey; people have bad days... I dont have to do her job, so let her be.
Its interesting to me that the cassette didnt want to work, then did? I probably only listed to a cassette on that box twice at most since I had it totally gone through.
Yeah let me know your review!

DM4Y, is that the Goldstar from ebay a few weeks ago?
Cool that you have both versions! Do they operate the same?
I didnt know the M90 was similar in size either?
Thanks James for the kind words! Have you got any riding in this summer up in B.C.?
well after your description of this Prosonic being brutally loud I just had to compare and
Yes the prosonic and the Goldstar both sound the same.
very loud and bassy
However the goldstar need's the capstan belt, as ff & rew both work but the capstan doesnt turn so i wish i knew which belt to get for it

well the vacation week that I have coming up this sept I will be using to fix lots of these bbx's as well as reinstalling new stereo in both the scion xb car and the dakota qc 4x4 truck
Sounds like a great vacation!
I didnt realise you were able to fix bbx yourself? Thats a great skill to have!
I have to pay for my repairs.
well if you document what you do as you do it.
. This way you can put it back exactly the way it came apart!
you can fix anything, providing you know and understand just what you are looking at/for.
And if you have a fair selection of tools and most of all ((( Patience )))
