Nuts about boomboxnut!

baby.boomer - 2009-11-13 05:43

I see that there's already a thread with Baby Boomer in the title, and it's about my recent transaction with boomboxnut, where I bought her Panasonic 5250L. Now... I really appreciate that post, but I want the name "boomboxnut" to be in the title, so I'm going to start a thread of my own.

This longtime member of S2G completely wowed me out with this super transaction. For three reasons:

1. The 5250 is absolutely perfect! It's in pristine physical condition, and everything on it does what it should, no exceptions. (I've bought new-old-stock boomers still in boxes that didn't work as well, because they'd been sitting around for twenty years.) All the functions function: radio, tape, volume, band swtich, ambience, tuner dial... even shortwave (and the fine tuning that goes with it). And there are none of thoese minor, annoying glitches you discover in most boomers after you get them: dirty switches that are noisy and need to be jiggled to work, non-functioning FM stereo (and LED), "flutter" in the tape speed, dead dial light, corrosion on the battery springs, bits of plastic tinkling around inside, tips missing from antennas. You know what I mean. This box has none of that! It is 100% both in looks and performance, and it sounds wonderful! (It even has the original plastic plug in the headphone jack for when phones aren't being used. How many of those do you think have survived all these years??) Plus, this is a Euro spec unit. Really unique! Try getting one of these babies into the USA without paying for Euro shipping?!

2. Speaking of shipping, boomboxnut's shipping was lightning-fast. I paid for the Panasonic on November 7, and the box was in my hands on November 11. How much faster can you get... especially when you consider the time it must've taken for her to pack it in gobs and gobs of cushioning and stick it in a huge, stiff carton, the kind you use for packing dishes in when you move? Total, solid protection!

3. Finally, boomboxnut is one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Her communication was frequent, friendly and helpful. I gained a friend along with a pristine boombox. It just doesn't get any better than that!

So, thanks bbn, not only for a flawless boombox, but for all those little extras you threw in: the zoom-zoom shipping, the rock-solid packing, the friendly messages, and - last, but not least - the 5250 service manual... so that, if this gem of a box ever does malfunction, I might just stand a chance of making it perfect again!

So... do you see now why I needed to start a separate thread? (Hope you don't mind.) Wink

Well James, I am flattered! Smile Thank you so much for giving my 5250 a good home, and thanks so much for your kind words. This was, unfortunately, my last "classic 80's" boombox but I had to part with it because of the possibility of losing my home, which will mean major downsizing if that happens. I still will remain an active member of S2G though. Thanks again my friend for such kind words, and enjoy your "new" boombox. Wink Big Grin
