want to report this quick story --
to say that us ebay buyers do have a quick 100% coverage on paypal purchases --
3 weeks ago i won what was hoped to be a very nice , very rare box : sanyo # 9996;
took a chance on a new seller --priced seemed good
anyhow -- here was the timing ::
waited the mandatory 7 days -- got no box and no emails
this had never happened to me before.
then filed a claim --after the next mandatory 10 days --received a full refund from paypal.
of course - this is no big victory
to get nothing but our money back - sure would have preferred this cool box -
then--to warn others -- i gave out my first ever negative feedback
still -- never did hear anything from this seller ( its like he is dead --hope not).
also -- we no longer have to watch out for that skimpy $200 coverage --paypal NOW takes care of it all.
bottom line = bid with bravery

man , for the honest seller, ebay and paypal can take a crap on their own chests . .
BUT ! ! !
Good for the honest buyer . . of which I am both ! ! ! !
panasonic.fan - 2008-11-20 15:38
Paypal has been doing this for years.....
sellers not being able to leave neg ! !
o.k ,
last week , an australian zero feedback bidder bought my gf8989 with b.i.n. . .
never heard from him, I emailed politely every day , still nothing . . .so i have to wait a week , file a non paying bidder dispute, then get my final listing fees back , then re list . .
what a crock . . .
this guy deserves neg, but i cant give him one . . .
Bill - that was my FIRST time --so i never really knew it was all that quick, smooth and easy.
----------------------
and Ben -- most definitely agree that ebay/paypal do NOT favor sellers --as you have just told --sellers are all set-up to get screwed
unfortunately it's like most stuff with rules :
It doesn't differentiate between honest people and dishonest people.

Amazing run of luck you had there. I have had less than half of your transactions on Ebay, and have had five refunds and two ripoffs via PP.
bill -- it has not really been ALL that lucky-
although this was my first non-delivery --
i hate to remember how many (dozens !!!
)
of "minty" boxes that arrived so SHOT --
they could not even be tested/listened to --
they all went immediately -- to the speaker shop -
for the $60 to $80 refoaming .
then - they were mostly ok.
btw, happy for you ira, to get your cash back hassle free, wonder why the guy didn't communicate or post the bbox ? soo weird some people . . . .
yup --the extended mystery was that he never even made one reply to the paypal dispute or claim
anyhow - who has a sanyo 9996 ??
that might have been a great box !!
_______________
a LITTLE off topic -- but
--good old lopez --told me it WAS a good one and to 'go for it'-
he had just bought the european version --so--a big coincidence , is that i won that same lopez type box on ebay november 4th --16 days ago !!!
DONT HAVE THAT ONE YET EITHER
Glad it worked out Ira!
Oh no
I did win a nice set of tweezers about 1/2 a year ago
I never got my tweezers and the seller did get my
money instant!
When I had known this I would got my money back!
Glad to hear your PP experience was "quick, smooth and easy"! I'm dealing with one of those situations now. I'm about to escalate a dispute to a claim after a week of no response to the dispute. This from a seller who (despite a very good feedback rating) never sent a boombox I won and didn't respond to any of my friendly inquiries prior to initiating the official dispute.
Amazing how many people apparently think that, if they ignore their obligations, they'll just go away. Do you suppose they do this with overdue credit/mortgage payments, too?
I'm with PF on the odds here. I've had my fill of bad transactions lately, from busted items to bad packing to slow shipping to no shipping! Some real gems have come along, too, of course, but way too many stinkers. To the point where I'm currently in a kind of self-imposed eBay withdrawal. It's a three-step program: stop searching, stop bidding, stop buying. We'll see how long it lasts, how soon the cravings return, and how well I can resist them when they do (not at all, if suddenly I get the urge to search for yet another Japanese domestic radio)!
BB --sorry to hear that so many ebay sellers have not treated you right --especially YOU !!
most members (unlike rude me)
are much to polite --
check out our 'crummy sellers' thread --(above)
it is almost in-active !!
so - to help each other out --we should use that thread and this feedback forum -- to post the bad along with the good.
------------------------
as always -let me advise that the safest solution is to buy boxes from MEMBERS---
especially from ME --
you pay a little more --but you wont get screwed (much)
panasonic.fan - 2008-11-21 08:40
It would appear that you have quite a bit of posting to do in that thread Ira, with dozens of ultimately bad transactions (didn't get what was described to you when you bid).
Were these truly bad transactions, or did all of them partially refund you, or..... ?
bill -- the non-shipment case was so very clear cut --
as for the 'not as described' deals --
well my ratio sucks --
i am so
non-perfectionist --but even with that --say 25 out of 125 ebay deals were far from good !!
they end up as donations to goodwill or parts boxes -- wouldnt ever try to sell them to even our dumbest members
the ebay/paypal refund system gets very sticky and tricky in these cases --and,
when there is short money involved --
its so not worth ALL the huge time and trouble it takes --
to prove that 'it didnt just happen in shipping'
or all the BS we hear back from sellers -
------------
i take some responsibility for:
1. bidding too often
2. bidding too high --- but mostly
3. buying from too many sellers who normally sell shoes, etc on ebay -- and know NOTHING about the boxes they 'describe'
____________________
--thinking about this is getting me pissed
more about the above -crummy sellers list -later
panasonic.fan - 2008-11-21 12:29
I hear you.....
I usually take sellers to task when the item is not as described AND they don't offer a partial refund. My last experience was bad, kind of turned me off to buying from those folks you refer to (sell shoes/clothes- then a bbx out of the blue).
I agree, when the price is reasonable (read NON-Epay prices), a member sale here is the best way to go.
well the way i look at it the seller was probably thinking it would be a $150.00 box
but did not at well for the seller
so decided to not send it
and relist it later and as you can see a 80% rating on feedback
so with that said not to much you can really do
except try to get your money back
.. but more than sure it will be relisted or he just sold to someone or his neibour
as for 'my take' on posting about crappy ebay sellers on either this feedback forum or the crummy sellers list --
it all depends if they are 'regular active' ebay box sellers --
no point in wasting our space on these many one shot deal sellers --
but if puma or partime or skillphil went phooey on us
-- we need to be warned.
-----------------------
---the one seller xxc92162x with the code x***c,
that i put up there as a crummy seller -- is VERY active as a box seller -- and buyer -- he bids on every collector type box
and my one experience with him --was bad enough
to warn s2g to not buy or sell or deal with him --
--------------------
anyhow --i still will say that paypal is very honorable and effective.
but far from complete insurance.

Yes, it's a common ploy for sellers to blame shipping... even when (after the fact, unfortunately) you can go back and actually
see the defect in the auction photo(s).
Of course, even when the defect (cracked case, free-floating transformer, etc.) happens in shipping, it's often not the shipper who's at fault. When a boombox is wrapped in nothing but a plastic trash bag (for what purpose? so the boombox stays clean??) and sent off stuffed inside a cereal box with a few pieces of crumpled newspaper around it, there's going to be "shipping damage." Try proving to UPS, which tells you to save the packaging when you file a claim so they can examine it, that they've caused the damage. They'll laugh at you!
Yes, some sellers will offer a refund, but usually they want you to send the boombox back. I never do that because a) it's a lot of time, effort and expense (sometimes as much or more than the original cost of the boombox), and b) I never know whether to send the bbx back in the same flimsy packaging it came in, or pack it the way I pack things, which is darned solid. My conscience hurts too much for me to send even a busted boombox back to a seller in such a way that it gets even more busted on the way back. So, instead, I just give up, don't bother, and absorb the loss. And it's not because I'm being a polite buyer; it's because I'm being lazy.
Fortunately, I have two rationalizations that usually work when I try to justfy the losses I absorb:
1) They're like the admission price to an antique show. I get nothing for it except the opportunity to buy stuff. In other words, my losses are my non-refundable "entrance fee" to the Wonderful World of eBay.
2) In my head, I divide up my losses among all the items that arrive in good shape, so that, theoretically, each nice item costs just a little bit more than I actually pay for it. Divided up over a hundred or so nice items in the course of a year of buying stuff, my losses don't seem like like much. I know it's a stupid rationalization, but it helps me sleep at night. And, believe me, I need the sleep!
P.S. Compared to all that "not as described" rigamarole I just described, non-receipt is a cinch. File a Paypal claim; get a refund.
wowee -- spot on 100% -- including , but 'not limited to'
your two part rationalization .
all i can add -- is advice to almost never send a box back.
--NOTHING is more of a PITA , discouraging waste of our time -- than to search for the right packing materials -- to wait in the PO line --to lose the freight money
just to send some POS box back to a loser seller
who can then 'claim' after another 10- 30 days --
that we stole the key parts or sent a different box back --
WAY more risk and trouble than its worth --
just go with the BB plan
panasonic.fan - 2008-11-21 15:01
Well, I would also say that if the laziness/effort thing is in play, and you know for certain that is it *not* shipping damage.....
After they refuse to do a partial refund, it is your duty to leave the negative to warn others.
Protect thy brethren, it has to be one of the Ten Commandments of the the Brotherhood, no?
Not leaving negative feedback, or worse, leaving positive feedback to make it go away, is covering it up any way you look at it.

Late in Responding To This I'm kinda Lukewarm On Pp as Most Know But I always use it as a Buyer,Fortunatly Have only Had to File Claims a Few Times Glad To Hear Their Process seems alot less painful and aggravating now,I was Kinda in The Same Situation as Baby Boomer.
My Guy Owed Me a Sw Radio For Nr 3 weeks No Communication Nothing,Finally Yesterday He sent an Email His Wife Had a Stroke!
I felt Really Bad,But w/o Communication How Could i Know,? Well Today Ups Came at Dinner Time, and Lo and Behold There was My item,PKGD with at Least 5 Pounds of Bubble wrap,Peanuts,Etc It took me Literally 20 Mins to unpack it was perfect! All's well that ends well! I Still Think PP is WEAK for Sellers But For Buyers it's Def The way to Go.
Yes, Paypal works for me, Glad it worked out Ira
