Stynger007 comes through!

fins5 - 2010-10-27 11:52

So, I'm shoveling out the driveway during the first snowstorm of winter 2010, and who should appear but the postman with a nice, heavy but smallish box!

What could it be? Why, it's a boombox from stynger007 (aka Peter)! Big Grin

Ok, shoveling can wait. I go inside, get out the exacto knife and start cutting through layers of heavily taped cardboard and lots of bubble wrap. 15 minutes later and I'm listening to the newest addition to the family: a Sony CFS-9000. Smaller than I thought it would be (the square design makes it look bigger in photos) but great sound...this is one very nice mini boombox!

Thanks stynger007 for coming through! I definitely recommend Peter as a great seller! Big Grin

Thanks for the comments!

Here it is with its big brother, the FH-15. Big bro is mute, though, because of rotted speaker foams...I really gotta find a way to repair these square surrounds!

Glad you are happy! Most have not heard these little boomers, they sound 3 times their size with great room filling sound.. Wink

The CFS-9000 (CFS-9900) are pre-FH series.. some have varying opinions on Sony ~ but the quality build of these units, coupled with the super silent cassette mechanism (comparable to the JVC- PC-55) these little power houses put out a solid 20 watts rms per channel, with 7 band tuner (5 SW with AM/FM) and an equalizer that responds more like rotary pots than a cheezy EQ which it is not Smile

Dave it was a pleasure, Will keep my eyes peeled for a set of replacement speakers for your FH-15..
Cheers, and let us know if you decide to sell some of yours off to buy that snowblower you might need! Big Grin Wink

Hey stynger - CFS definitely got kick - not as wide, though a bit taller, than my RX-C45 but way more volume (though the Panasonic wins the mini title for sound quality at lower volumes). On the other hand, for build quality and look/feel...the Sony easily takes the win. I'm glad to have one in nice condition.

No snowblower needed here...I need my winter exercise! Though I may bid farewell to some more boxes to bring others into the fold, keeping my total at an even dozen - trades anyone? Smile I really need a mint version of a bigger Sony FH, not to mention a JVC PC=55/550 (have two nice enough 55's, but really want a mint one).

Thanks again!

Dale

This is a deceptive little box.  It may seem a bit plasticky especially the rather basic tuning section and rattly graphic but you take it apart and you'll see something very different.  Behind that fascia is a solid lump of gubbins, all metal with a steel chassis.  Very easy to work on with modular construction, everything plugs into everthing else.  The deck is a gem and I'm sure it;s the same as the big FH models and the speakers are made of good thick plastic to deter 'rattle/boom'.   One of my faves...and some come with a vinyl case..
