It hasn't even been a week yet - and WHOAH - time for another Ira's thread!
This gentleman was kind enough to force on me his amazing National Panasonic RX-5350 - despite my repeated pleads not to - and the fact that I've been pretty broke for the last 40-45 years!! So this week my children will find some backyard grass in their lunchbags - since that is the only food I can afford - but I don't feel bad - I have a few bucks in my hidden stash, so I will score me some McDonalds!!
Disclaimers:
- I'm not 45
- I don't have any kids
- And last but not least - thanks Ira!!!!
Nice score vladi!

Thanks Gord!!

I like it Vladi, would like to score one myself someday.
Do feel bad cause the kids nowadays smoke that backyard grass and sell it too so they'll be happy and make some money for papa!

That is awesome Vladi!!!!! Ira's the man!
true funny vladi story about this NP5350 :
when he and i were talking about this one --i said that this particular special edition 5350 was just too nice and too rare to ship - and take the chance of having it cracked or lost or damaged --
since then - i have found a great shipping outfit that i TRUST --
but during the days right before all that --
VLADI WAS WILLING TO DRIVE THE 2,000 MILE round trip -- just to pick it up !!! REALLY
hows that for a real box collector - ?
vladi...It actually WORKED??!?!
Seriously, I thought you would need that cardboard UE recommended!
All right, have some single malt and enjoy!
Congrats to both of you for a great transaction between members.

Damn Vladi, you were willing to drive 2,000 miles? You are boombox looney but I'll admit I would consider it for one of those too.
I love the open road, have driven the 2000+ to Ohio and back for holidays many times. Small investment for time with my family. So, if this Pana was to become part of the "family", then, by ALL MEANS!
SuperyAy on ya Vlad!
Well, the trip to Florida was NOT about this National Panasonic - I was promissed free beer by some of the members there!!
But ya - after the December disasters when every single boombox came cracked - I was very hesitant to let our postal service screw up yet another boombox, and I thought I would take Gord's advice and go pick it up myself. Maybe check out those jock-girls while I'm at it too
Also, now that I own not one but TWO of Ira's boxes - I want to say once again - somebody buy that M70 he's selling, or else I'll have to get it myself!!
agree with vladi 100% !!!
masterblaster84 - 2008-01-31 09:12
Vladi, I would go for Ira's M70 if I didn't already have one. Besides I have just purchased two top boxes for a large chunk of change so getting duplicates is very low on my list right now. One of the next boxes on my list is Big Ben, I know you can appreciate that.
I can completely appreciate the "free beer" with some S2G members, that's worth a trip in itself.
MB84, congrats on your M90 - I can't wait to see some pics
What was the second top box???
Ya, you should definately get BigBen - I can't say enough how much I like the sound!! There's BigBen on ebay right now - I was thinking about bidding on it - unless you're thinking about it too - then I'll let you have it!

I bought a JVC PC-55 in awesome condition just a few days ago. I'm not a huge 3-piece (5 piece in the case of the 55) fan but I wanted a couple of the best ones so I went for the PC-55.
Thanks Vladi, I was going to try for the Big Ben on ebay unfortunately I will be at a retirement dinner tonight so I have to bid ahead of time meaning I'll probably get sniped.
It's missing the woofer cover but I figure I can make one if I can't find one.
For some reason, this box created no interest on ebay at all - I'm truly surprised by that. Maybe you should just put your highest bid on it - this way if somebody snipes it - at least you can tell yourself you wouldn't have bought it for that much anyway
masterblaster84 - 2008-01-31 10:36
I noticed that and I'm surprised so I'm planning on doing what you said, I'll place my bid and see what happens. Sniping can be shocking though so it wouldn't surprise me to see it jump up to $600 or more in the last minute.
Well...good luck! This is definately your week as far as getting rare boxes - and as they say - third time's the charm - meaning you're bidding on a third AWESOME boombox in one week, so you should win it!
And then I would be very curious to hear your opinion as to what you think about BigBen compared to your other boxes.
masterblaster84 - 2008-01-31 11:16
Thanks Vladi, I'd like to think I've earned a good week. As for Big Ben we'll see what happens but If I win I'll definately report on it.
Ira parted with his 5350???????
Oh... Okay!

Ya, Ira indead parted with it, but not 'till after he infringed on my Panasonic eggs!!
It is an awesome box - to the point that it is serving a *museum duty* at this time - after listening to it for the first couple of weeks it has been granted the "untouchable" status, and it is not to be bothered anymore

Thanks skippy! It is an awesome unit, and it did cost me seven or eight golden bricks - although mine instead of Marantz read "Panasonic eggs"
P.S. I agree - Ira is awesome!!
well vladi and skippy -- its an honor to be mentioned by you 2 fellas --
and i have on occasion -- read some nice posts about you two, also !!
