IMHO you should expect confirmation of dispatch within a week, or communication as to the delay.
I hope for your sake that this is a deal where you have some sort of recourse...
driptip - 2011-12-22 06:26

Good to hear.
I'm sure the seller is grateful for you sensibly not 'naming & shaming' right away, & that you gave a chance to put things right.
Please let us know when all is well with the deal concluded.
Assuming it is, we don't need to know who the seller is, unless that seller wants to make themselves known. We're all human & we all make mistakes, eh?

This is an unfortunate experience. I am actually looking to buy a couple myself and hope to have a better experience. JVC is my preference.
retrodos - 2011-12-23 13:29
Paypal is always a prefer way to pay, or credit card as you have buyers protection. Sellers don't typically like them, in the earlier days they would hold your funds upto 180 days, But they change that now, it's only 21 days, most of the time sooner if you provide tracking, usually 3 days after item was shipped. What box did you buy?
detroit.scott - 2011-12-23 14:30
He says he sent it at 317 today. If that is true I should see it next week. Please let this be true. Hey, if you have the tracking number I would appreciate it. I will let you know its condition upon it's arrival.
detroit.scott - 2011-12-23 17:38
latest. I saw a video of him standing in the shipping location with the radio. date was told by an off camera person as the 23rd, Christmas eve eve. things are moving along.

I am going to take a guess, that it's a GE 3-6035B and was shipped "Pony Express" I take it.

Per UPS, 15LB package in route, due on Friday.
redbenjoe - 2011-12-27 19:47
i think this seller --whoever he is = SUCKS !!
first you have to pay by money order--
then --you have to wait FOUR weeks ..
and finally --you had to have this thread of peer pressure-
or it may have been shipped ... never
isolator42 - 2011-12-28 01:42
Ira, whilst it's a way from ideal, let's see what gets delivered.
If a well packed boomer arrives in the condition advertised, then there's no real harm done...
redbenjoe - 2011-12-28 04:36
right , paul -
there might not be a direct financial loss -
but scott said it was all paid for -4 weeks ago --
should have been ' under his tree '
and the trust level this seller has earned is so extreme
low --that he posted a video to prove the shipment
---------------
hope it works out --but
whatever happens
all the members need to be warned -
to insist on paypal ONLY -- or NO DEAL
stereo.mad - 2011-12-28 05:18
its a shame there are sellers out there like that, iv been waiting nearly 3 weeks for a box and getting no reply when i message the seller! time to contact paypal me thinks

Great job packing it up , James
@Brutus442 You do know that there is only ONE way to pack something and that is if you were Shipping it to Your-SELF !
and you desired to ensure that it will arrive as it left your hands, so You spend a bit extra time and $ doing so, It's the ONLY way...

That box is awesome, it only weighs 5.4 kg but has 49 watts input, and outperforms several 6-7 kg "grails" such as the GF9191.
walkgirl - 2012-01-02 13:42
2 layers bubbel plastic is nothing, I use 6 or so
redbenjoe - 2012-01-02 13:43
agree - i like that box alot -
and the 6000 --which is the analogue tuner version-
works even better for my FM reception
kingrat2010 - 2012-01-02 13:44
cool
isolator42 - 2012-01-03 04:07
Glad it had a happy ending.
For those of you who are youTube challenged (like me at work), there are some pics of the same model (GE 3-6035B) here:
metad - 2012-01-05 05:07
it only weighs 5.4 kg but has 49 watts input, and outperforms several 6-7 kg "grails" such as the GF9191.
If it's 49 watts power consumption, it means this box eats more power, and it's less efficient, than GF-9191 with 35 watts, cause most of the "midsize" boxes have no more than 3-5 watts output power per channel...unless it has BTL amp like M70 or GF-9696.
If it sounds better that GF-9191 - it's not because of the 49w, cause power consumption has nothing to do with sound quality, I don't think this GE is able to compete with Aiwa TPR-950 (consumes 18w) and Panasonic RX-5500 (consumes only 14w).
isolator42 - 2012-01-05 05:56
Most (if not all) Hitachi 3Ds have a BTL amp powering the extra woofer(s), & those woofers really shift when pushed.
Shame so many of those woofers were just chucked in the plastic box, with no tuned enclosure.
Even so, it was an efficient use of battery power (a single BTL amp & two 3-5W amps for L & R full range), to give alot of volume & thump
My 8 D-Cells used to last ages in my 3D7.
Metad's right; power consumption can only really be used as a vague guide to power output (i.e. if a boomer consumes 4x the watts, it is more likely to have a bit more oomph, but it's no guarantee).
Some identical boomers (in terms of amps, speakers, etc.) have differing power consumption ratings depending on where in the world it comes from. Eg, Canadian boomers sometimes seem to have much higher quoted power consumption than the European version (like the 3D70).

I have all 4 of those boxes. Here is how they compare to each other:
RX-5500: Best highs and mids..... an extremely "precise" sounding box for classic rock and classical. But it's not loud at all, and it has the least amount of bass. Best build quality of the 4, with the best tape deck as well.
Sharp GF-9191: More bass than the RX-5500, but less than the other 2. And the highs are muddled & imprecise. Great looking box, but lowest build quality of the 4.
TPR-950: Has the best low-volume "warm" bass, but it isn't as good at producing "tight" bass -- the woofers are a little too mobile. Has the second-best highs after the 5500. The mids are better than the Sharp, but not as good as the other 2. Best reception of the 4, and best "wide" setting. But it's the most difficult box to work on.
The GE: The woofers are shallow and stiff, so at low volumes it sucks because there isn't very much "warm" resonant bass. But when you crank it, it comes alive, and provides great "tight" bass as well as mids. Highs are average. Can go a bit louder than the other 3. And more portable because it's the lightest. Also it's the easiest to take apart. Second-best build quality after the Panasonic.
metad - 2012-01-05 13:20
So, GE outperforms GF-9191, but Panasonic is better with 14 watts power consumption versus GE's 49 watts , right ?
reli - 2012-01-05 14:34

No...... The Panny does sound a little more precise/clear, but the GE is louder & has more bass.
metad - 2012-01-05 16:33
Well, it's a matter of taste, to me Panasonic is the winner if it's more precise, and has better sound on low volume.
What do you mean, Panasonic has better build quality than Sharp 9191 ?
I have both, 5500 and 9292, and I don't think so, they both have comparable quality, i.e. - assembly, components, materials.
Only Panasonic's tape deck is better indeed, but it's because of the design of the deck, not the build quality.
When I lift the Sharp I can't hear any creaks of the cabinet, it's like a brick, and Panasonics sometimes makes some little plastic noice.
But I can't say Sharp's cabinet is better or more robust, or Panasonic's one is worse - they are comparable in quality.
Sharp saved money on the speaker rings, they are chromed plastic, but Panasonic saved on the more thin grilles, second antenna, tiny (compare to the Sharp ones) back screws, and screws for tweeters. If you have opened it, you might be noticed - tweeters fixed with melted plastic clips, not the screws (unacceptable for this class of the radio, IMO), also Panasonic's back of the cabinet made of that grey plastic, which degradates with time, and turns into greenish shade, etc, etc
But in general they are from the same league, and the same build quality.
reli - 2012-01-05 20:29
I've had two 9191's, and both had problems with stereo/stereo wide that could not be solved with deoxit. They also had inferior plastic in the tuner window and tape door (they were both somewhat cloudy & hazy). And its toggle switches do not "click" as nicely as the RX-5500. And its tape keys feel cheap compared to the 5500. Oh and the tuner on the 9191 provides decent reception, but much louder static between stations than the 5500.
Panasonic and JVC have always been the highest quality IMO....followed closely by Sanyo and GE. But of course, opinions are like assholes...everyone's got one.
metad - 2012-01-06 03:32
Opinions and facts are different things.
I've seen number of Panasonics with "cloudy & hazy" tuner windows - this is the fact, not opinion.
Clear plastic can degradate with time, depending on the storage conditions - well known fact.
Tuner window on my Sharp is clear and nice - this is the fact also.
Boomboxes of all brands may have clear or cloudy windows, depends on storage.
If you disagree, and have your own opinion on this fact, it doesn't change the fact.
"I've had two 9191's, and both had problems with stereo/stereo wide that could not be solved with deoxit.
Oh and the tuner on the 9191 provides decent reception, but much louder static between stations than the 5500. "
The fact yours two 9191' s were faulty, really doesn't mean that Panasonic has better build quality.
No matter - you can accept this fact, or not.
reli - 2012-01-06 08:44
There are no "facts" regarding which manufacturer is better than another. Just opinions. Which is why I stated that my opinion was only an opinion.
And my opinion is that Panasonic is better than Sharp. I've owned many different products from Panasonic, from CD players to shavers, and they offer consistent quality & reliability at an affordable price. Where is Sharp anymore? They sell TVs, but those TVs are not the top-rated models.
IMO the only reason the 9191 gets high prices on Ebay is because of its classic styling. I see 2 or 3 every week on Ebay Germany. Perhaps it's because they change owners frequently because the new owner discovers it has technical flaws and puts it back on Ebay....lol.
driptip - 2012-01-06 10:20
i love both brands, Sharp & Panasonic, specially the upside down style, i have the 9696, 777, and other sharps , quality is great on both.

Panasonic is better manufacturer than Sharp, cause you had reliable Panasonic cd-players and shavers at affordable prices, and Sharp TVs are not top-rated...
Nobody couldn't say better.
I don't know why did you decide this fact proves, that Panasonic boxes are better quality.
ha ha ha.
"Where is Sharp anymore" ? LOL

You are confusing three different concepts: "build quality", "sound quality", and your personal preferences.
If you do not understand it (as we may see it) - it's a senseless conversation.

No, there's no confusion. I don't think good build quality = good sound quality. The JVC RC-838 has good build quality, but disappointing sound quality IMO. Same with the RX-5150, for that matter.
Sound quality is a separate issue, which is why I wrote "And how about sound quality" to denote that I was changing subjects.
And regarding opinions, I'm not forcing anyone to believe them.
