DM4U, DecentMan4you - Extreme caution advised !!!
ao - 2012-01-07 00:22
OK, following a number of ugly transactions it has been decided to advise EXTREME caution when dealing with this seller.
He is currently selling off the back of his numerous YouTube aliases. He is clearly keen not to use any selling method which involves buyer protection e.g. eBay, PayPal. This is a clear sign of trouble ahead.
He is currently selling boomboxes on YouTube under the following aliases...
DecentMan4You
BoomboxCassette2Go
Boomboxery
It's worth noting that none of the above names are affiliated with either Stereo2Go or our sister site Boomboxery.com. It should be warning enough that this seller has more than one YouTube account and is choosing names resembling these trusted forum sites.
Following the well documented M50 debate a couple of other similar bad deals with this seller have come to light.
Note - We are not saying don't buy from him, we are saying please use extreme caution. Below is a list of measures you should take to protect yourself against a potential bad deal.
1. Avoid money orders, checks or cash at all costs, these have no protection. Request PAYPAL ONLY at all costs. He will use PayPal if pushed.
2. Avoid non-ebay protection sales. Please, please only buy from eBay, we know there are charges but it's worth it for the protection they offer, eBay is after all a community-based site. An obvious option is to insist seller sets up a quick private BIN listing. (Maybe agree to pay seller the extra 10% to cover all these fees ). There should be NO reason for seller not to do this if requested. If not then walk away.
3. Avoid telephone agreements, ALL parts of the deal MUST be via email, paper trails are key to any legal claim.
4. Avoid USPS for US deals, use Fedex as they offer insurance. Very Important !!!!
5. When paying with PayPal, avoid using existing PayPal funds i.e. cash you have sitting in PayPal. Instead leave your PayPal account empty with your Credit Card as backup so any payment will show up on your credit card and will entitle you to insurance/protection (though check that your CC company offers this, most do).
redbenjoe - 2012-01-07 05:05
add UPS ( united parcel service ) to Fedex as an approved carrier-
both Fedex and UPS use accurate // dependable scans -
--
but unfortunately USPS ( the post office ) has only very
vague scans to your nearby zip code ONLY-
plus the size and weight of the USPS packages are not
recorded on their scans -
so scammers using USPS can easily get a 'delivered'
scan --just by mailing a golf tee in a padded envelope
to any local hotel or saloon, etc..
with a false name...
this scam is a huge success
DONT permit USPS shipments--
---------------------
also -- assume there may be an endless series
of dm4u AKAs
THANKS , AO for this warning
nak.d - 2012-01-07 05:58
It's a shame when this sort of action is required. One of the things about choosing to belong to a community - virtual or otherwise - is that you assume you'll be with like minded people...I.E honest and open. Thanks god for the nice people here .
ao - 2012-01-07 06:01
List of AKAs will be updated as new info comes in.
Also, can I urge any of you with a YouTube account to comment on his videos including a link to this thread.
Feel free to cut and paste the following.
Buyers beware, this seller isn't all he seems. Come along to Stereo2Go and read about all the bad transactions we've had with this guy.
Note - The link is a shortened link to this thread.
redbenjoe - 2012-01-07 06:58
agree about the you-tube comments -definitely.
its important to also warn fellow collectors -
who may not be members of these 2 sites

Shame it had to come to this, "Stretch" was more then reasonable in getting the issue resolve, by not pushing the issue. More of reason, "James" sure have resolve the issue, everyone would have had more respect for him doing so.

Far from it for me to say but the guy is a clown. He paid way over the odds for boxes in the first place because he bid stupid money to ensure that noone else could get them, even if he had multiples of the same boxes in the first place. That in itself is not a collector, its a bitter hoarder with a hint of OCD.
This was always gonna go bad it was just a matter of time. And I for one was absolutely sick and tired of the utter drivel he brought to the site. Good riddance.

He definitely was a hoarder, looked at some of his videos and his place was a complete health hazard, he has boxes he never even opened? Theirs no good reason to own 8 of the same model boxes!!
Most collectors collect certain models based on era or set they are trying to go for, or go for holygails models with the catalogs and brochures and display it in a proper display case, or shelving units in usually a big room, then store the extras in boxes what not going on display, or give away, or sell them. Plus enjoy the history of the items and use it as a conversation pieces, to share and trade with other people and know the history of that item in great detail and proud of their collection.
James was not a collector in any means. His thing was to buy them all, to ensure that noone else could get them. Then he could sell them way overpriced and even lie about the condition. Pretty sure their more people, that got screw over, that just wrote it off, or haven't found this site yet, or hoping he makes good on his promises?

^ could"nt of put it better myself!
i had two of the same "grail" and one very much the same so i did a trade off for some boxes i dont have,so both of us extended our collection with something different
i don"t see the point in having lots of the same model, james is trying to dominate the market or he"s just barking mad

It's time to close this chapter guys. Everything has now been said and I suggest we now put it all behind us.
I suggest we use this thread as the official 'caution' thread and leave personal opinion out of it? This afterall is the thread I think we should link to when issuing warnings elsewhere on the web so i think it's best if it didn't sound too vitriolic.
It's our job now to do all we can to make sure nobody else falls foul of this seller, this includes non-members.
Take a look at the relevant sticky in the Sellers Feedback section and if you have a YouTube account can I ask you to link to the page with a suitable warning in the comments section of any of his countless terrifying videos. You don't have to leave a name just warn those poor folks who seem blissfully unaware of the pitfalls.
dogtemple - 2012-01-08 04:59
it would also be worth thumbing up the comments in the youtube links so that they show up at the top as the highest rated comments. that way they wont get lost and people do see them.
has this guy been banned from here now?

Thanks for posting this AO! I just filed an official trademark / use complaint with YouTube regarding JCP's use of "boomboxery". I'll try and keep you guys posted.
As much as I would like to see his account taken down or videos removed, for what he did, it more likely not going to happen, for the following reasons below.
Their a few problems with that case, he never used the name "boomboxery" in the title of his videos, just said he just stated he was a trusted member their, plus you guys don't sell boxes, your just a community forum and his videos itseft is not available for commercial use, whichs means, he not collecting ad revenue.
Using a company or business name, logo, or other trademark-protected materials in a manner that may mislead or confuse others with regard to its brand or business affiliation may be considered a trademark policy violation
Using another's trademark in a way that has nothing to do with the product or service for which the trademark was granted is not a violation of trademark policy.
Plus a federal or international trademark registration number is required. If the name you are reporting is not a registered mark (e.g., a government agency or non-profit organization), then must be well known, otherwises it's a no go.
Best way to warn people and keep someone else from being a potential victim, is to down rate all his videos and everyone, not just one person need to comment on all his videos, because it will be easy for him to delete one comment, but if enough people make comments, it going to be hard to delete them all and he will more likely disable anyone from making a comments, which is what we want, because then it's going to be hard for him to sell a box. Also unsubcribe to his account.
The one other thing someone may want to try, is flag his account for "copyright infringement", the music he play to promote those boxes is not his? Youtube takes that serious, It only fair use if it was educational, he using the video to promote his sales!! Plus I notice he has "Stereo2go" site link to his main youtube page under his websites, that goes under trademark violation, since he doesn't own the server or content of this site!!

Wow he when that far? That would be without any doubt trademark violation. Get him and have all his channels linked, youtube will supend all his channels in that case.

Maybe now he will start selling his boxes on Ebay, which is what he should have done in the first place. I never understood his desire to create 10 minute long videos, email back and forth on Youtube, create new videos in response to someone's question, create another video when he packages it up, etc. The concept is OK if you have the time and are a very skilled cinematographer, but a skilled cinematographer he is not.
Ebay is the easiest and most lucrative way to sell. Unless of course he is afraid of Ebay's buyer protection.

Reason being that any potential buyers engaging with him using this method have zero comeback or protection.

It not my box, it's someone else on Youtube, forgot to put the quotes in.
retrodos - 2012-01-10 10:41
He just disable the comments on that channel. I would change tis thread from "Extreme caution advised !!!" to "Avoid at all cost!!!". Theirs going to be more people, they just don't know about this site yet, or gave up after a while.
He also change his youtube setting to ask for comments to be approve and disable the rating system and deleted all the bad comments. The only thing left to do is to flag all his videos and hope Youtube will suspend him, otherwise he going to end up screwing someone else over.
He also like to steal boxes from people and not pay for it, as he put a claim to paypal and then says he never received it and get the funds back, but then does a video a month later of the same box for sale? This guy alot worst then I originally thought. Just wondering if that how he got most of his boxes?

He sent the funds to pay for the box thur Paypal, then put a claim in saying he never received the box since tracking was never added into the paypal transaction, due to the sale was outside eBay and paypal refunded him back the money. James when as far a deleting the comment to hide the facts, on the video of the same box he stole.
This is one reason you don't accept paypal funds outside eBay, people find ways to scam you, even if you have tracking, it's hard to proof, with eBay you can at least print the shipping label thur them. James know all the tricks, may be the very reason why he doesn't sell on eBay, his Paypal more likely was suspended. Big time scammers do this trick all the time on Craigslist to.

^^^ dont have any doubt, it does happen like that with paypal, its happened to me a few times with paypal through ebay.
paypal make out the seller is the bad guy and the buyer is protected. in reality it leaves the seller wide open to fraud and thats what happens. youre easily stung with paypal. all they have to do is claim that they didnt get the package and paypal refund the money from your account.
