Opinion is; to use a Philips D8614 to rest

the JVC RC-M70 on top of anyday

The Philips D8614 is brighter sounding than the M70, & RC-M70 has superior Bass than the D8614

JVC RC-M70 with it's Manual cassette controls is superior to the D8614 with it's Motor driven pushbutton's that has a " gear " that is Known to break as it is brittle in it's age by now - that when it break's you will NO longer be able to play your cassette's it regardless of replacing all of the belts in the D8614

Preference to the M70

lav.loo - 2012-11-07 09:15

nice of you to compare traveler, iv'e gotta say after going inside the d8614 they are of inferior build quality. if i had to choose i would now go for an m70 over an 8614 no question.

the only thing stopping me is the price, that's the reason i go for the d8614 because it's a decent box for peanuts.

deliverance - 2012-11-07 09:18

well said lav a honest opinion considering how much you like the philips .

northerner - 2012-11-07 09:25

Ah but every man and his dog (including me!) goes for an M70...takes a more discerning and sophisticated punter to seek out the D8614

deliverance - 2012-11-07 09:27

super

lav.loo - 2012-11-07 10:02

i'm beginning to wonder wtf i see in the philips tbh, apart from the sound.

iv'e started looking at the negatives and here's a list....

the led's only dance on tape play

the build quality is quiet poor

the tape deck buttons are always wobbly

i better stop before i bin the pair

deliverance - 2012-11-07 10:10

its what you like mate thats what matters .

@ Lav Loo you said back in this link that you had a Philips D8514 ?  Yes ?

LINK ERROR.1#277558145499923721

Did you have a chance to compare the 8514 against the 8614 - and if you did what was your Idea of the sound difference's between the 2 of them, forgiving the obvious size difference?

bison - 2012-11-08 06:27

i have an 8514 and they are a good box,

sound ok,they are smaller than you would think though

exposed deck keys on them is a concern(no bullbar)

usual philips all plastic but they look good and not that many about

yes Traveler i had an 8514 a few year back, they sound great for a little box.

between the 8614 and 8514 there is,nt a lot of difference really, i think the 8614 just wins in that it has a little more power as it's a bigger box

The Philips 8514 and the Magnavox D 8523 have made it to my keeper list, so now I am torn between just which one to keep
