Anyone interested in starting a thread on this. What is the world's rarest walkman? What is the rarest in your collection?
Good thread ZX280. I don't know what the rarest walkman is.
But I would say my minty fresh Aiwa HS-P05 and matching Aiwa HP-01 earbuds is one of my rarest walkmen.
Oh, great thread ZX.
I knew Skippy would rub my nose in it with his glorious PO5, I love that unit the more I see it. And a black WM-5, oh lordy.
Difficult to say what the rarest is as there is so many we don't know of. Some pretty normal models in other colours can be quite rare too e.g the illusive Hawaian WM-f5 & the green DD1s.
But there is one unit I'd put in poll position as the most illusive i.e. top of my wish list for 5 years, and that is the Panasonic RP-FA100. For those of you who don't know, this is the 'other' double cassette Walkman.
As far as my rarest goes, I'd say you can't get much rarer than a WM-10 with a 'recording' function.
Hey all! Skippy, I had the walkman as a kid! I now have it in silver with the original box and manual, and also I have one in red! Unfortunately, both stopped working a few months ago, and my tech guy will not fix walkmans :-(
I have a black WM-5 as well, but it no longer works--not to hijack, but anyone who wants to fix some of mine, I have some good ones to trade for your labor including a boodo khan that plays but does not have sound...?
I have a few that might qualify... how about an Aiwa HS-M2 stereo microcassette recorder? I also have a very cool Sharp without controls ( all all on the remote) that once belonged to Hakeem Olajawon...
how about a Marantz walkman with detachable stereo mike (not the big black one with meters)?
My rarest is sort of rare (ish) ...my lovely DD9. These do however come up on the bay a few times each year...
Sanyo MG-R60 I used to have.80s Walkmans are def.Kristi Carr.
just a tad off the subject but mabey not. i have a black wm-f5 sport in the box. it's all mint but the player got my 2 minutes before the gear broke. the earbuds that came with it are mint and also they were the first earbuds ever made to use in a stereo cassette player. the box has the origonal price of 149.95. the charge receit is still in the box and with tax it came to 168.62. it was bought at "record town" in austin, texas. i won't tell the persons name as i don't know him. it was bought on 9-27-84. there must be something rare about all this stuff i think. it's at least historical.
Yeah, that DD is pretty nice. Don't you just love it when you stumble accross something still boxed with all original accesoriues. I always wonder, are these items which were simply never wanted or have folks just looked after them?
You lot have some great stuff.
thanks.
i am pretty certain this is a case of a item being opened and rejected by the buyer for one tiny tiny blemish on the item.
there is a 1/64 of a inch blemish on the case of this walkman.
it just hasnt been used.
sometimes i think it is a case of a gift being given and the person already has one. sometimes people just dont use things.
i mean someone gets something out of impulse and just never gets around to using it.
i have a few boxed radios. i dont know why i find the things i do so often but i am glad that i do.
the cool thing about this walkman is it actually apears to have been purchased in japan.
very strange how it ended up here unused at a noodle shop.
Super+good thread zx280
My rare pieces of Walkman are the perfect Sony WM-40 and the all first
TPS-L2 with GUYS&DOLLS sockets.
I dedicated a topic for these two rare Walkmans
GUYS&DOLLSWM-40
OK, let's steer this back on topic slightly.
What's your top three wishlist walkmans which you simply can't find for love nor money?
Here's mine:
1. Panasonic RP-FA100
2. Sanyo M-XP2 micro
3. Panasonic RX-1955
I only have one on my wishlist, a Blue Sony WM-75.
Top of my wishlist is that bright orange
RQ-SW55V that Milosancho showed us last year. Next is a mint red WM-45 sports and finally that Panasonic RP-FA100
Also what about a blue `solar' Wouldn't that be right up there among the rarest?
My rarest walkman accessory it could be called is the Boodo Khan BBS-10 Body system with vibrating headphones and seat back with amplifier. Here is link to post.
Boodo Khan Body SystemAs to AO twist to topic the 3 top walkmans to find yet ...boy now I have soo many
1. Black WM-7
2. Toshiba RT-CS1 two speaker base with removable walkman
3. JVC PC-DM100JW in bright red portable recording removable walkman from Boombox base
Now I just hope I have not created stronger competition to find these rare beasties.
i have a fire engine red "carson" which may be more of a boombox that a cassette player.it's totally plastic and made in korea i believe. the knobs and stuff are chrome colored plastic. one speaker seperates to allow for separation and a more stereo effect. the am radio works but the fm doesn't. will anybody who knows anything about "carson" products let me know anything abouthem . i have never saw one in the last 4 years of looking on ebay.
Here's probably my rarest a Black WM-7 now with headphones!
Any of the Goldstar variants of the WM-7 would make me very happy.
when you find your goldstar varient i have something to go with it. it's one goldstar HP90 sealed goldstar cassette tape. it's made in korea with hardly any scuffing on the wrapper. i can't find any for sale after 2 months of looking on the usa ebay.
For me it's definately the
Toshiba KT-AS10 .
- A true gem IMHO :
Dee27
Elite..... Absolutely Stunningly INCREDIBLE all 3. Ultimate examples of this marvelous technology you have saved from the ravages of time and use.
We are grateful for you enthusiasm of this hobby and your post to this topic. I have a beautiful Panasonic RQ-S75 in Rare blue Japan release only model you sold me truly one of my favorites to listen to.
My rarest would be the Aiwa HS-JX849:

Sir, you have passion and taste. This is an achievement.
Has anyone managed to get their hands on an Aiwa FMT-1, the unit that gives you a wireless connection between phones and walkman?
Hey Paul,
Nice to hear from you. I though I saw a wireless Aiwa in Chinatown a while back. Maybe I'll head down there and try to find the store.
I only have an
F2, and another not-so-rare
fatty Walkman.
Hi, I'm new here. Probably the rarest walkman ever (according to the quantity in a series) would be Anniversary Silver Plated Tiffany Edition - Sony WM-700T, in a wooden box with accessories. Only 200 were made (serial number is engraved) and given to popular musicians and people in music industry. They weren't for sale.
I have one. ;p
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~an.../walkman/TIFFANY.htmLook the serial ! ** / 250
So what is true ? 200 or 250 pieces ?
According to this page, 250 were made, but only 200 given as gift.
Maybe this means 200 were given as gifts by Sony or Tiffany to third parties, 50 were kept internally by Sony & Tiffany - perhaps kept in museum & given to top execs, partners, distinguished engineers, etc.? I am sure Ibuka & Morita got theirs
PS: My 701C (UK model) has the same headphones as pictured here - seems those were not standard; in Japan nude type was included?
