Sony Caraoke Walkman

ao - 2009-07-29 23:54

I don't buy many walkmnan's these days but I would have grabbed this one if I'd managed to stay awake. Oh well, some things just aren't to be.

Now this is rare.

Hey AO... no need to kick yourself though it is a really neat rare player. The bidder that won I have lost several auctions to in past month. If you had bid to win would have cost you dearly. HE NEVER LOSES.. in last 17 auctions lost one Red Face . From my personal experience he puts in a bid of $150 or more on anything he bids on. He must want walkmans bad... wonder who this is.??????????
Only info ebay gives is he has 231 feedback.. says he bid on 91 auctions past 30 days. Here is last 17 auctions results listed by ebay.

LOL, he was a real eBay terror on the US eBay website - who isn't if they won a Sony WM-F10 for 300USD, yes 300USD for a WM-F10 and it wasn't even mint!! That guy had a real shopping spree for Sony Walkmans, particularly ones of the WM-10 series - he bought like 5-6 of them in a week!! Given the difficulty of repair on such a tiny unit, I reckon he busted one of those WM-F10s and went back for more! Nice going, o***o. I never liked WM-10s anyway, their belts tended to stretch and then pop out, jamming the motor, not to mention how easy it is to break something when it is opened up (I busted a friend's WM-10's DC-DC once... very difficult tiny repair job to fix.)

Anyway, about this Sony ANK-L2... I am not Japanese but the kanji characters on the 3 position switch definitely mention it as a tone equalization switch. I am not sure about the one near "4CH", audio enhancement???

Another observation we could make is that we can assume that the transport is similar to that of a WM-22 or TCM-2 - check out the location of the bottom 3 screws, battery lid and transport controls! It will probably possess the same, simple auto-stop mechanism. So you don't need to feel that bad, agentorange, but I must say, its certainly unique.

hi..do you really think those wm-10's and wm-f10's are hard ? if you are just doing a belt replacement they are a piece of cake . i've done about 10 without a problem. just follow doc p,s instructions and then there's nothing to it. try a toshiba kt-as1. now that is hard. i would never try it again.

ao - 2009-08-04 23:30

Ahhhhh, the KT-AS1 is a walk in the park. Open up an Aiwa HS-J08 & you'll know you're in for a rough ride.

kkzeder - 2009-08-05 01:17

Hi, busted one up when I stripped it bare, to loosen one of those stuck reel gears. Its pretty easy to damage the DC-DC 'board' when you remove it. Its fixed - but SMD rework is no joke.

But, yes belts are pie (no flywheels to remove or such :-). Anyways, I have seen a few WM-10s sold on ebay where the seller didn't know how to correctly open the machine...

I'm not a walkman repair guy, but decent auto reverse walkmans are challenging no? I know some of the new Sony WM-GX walkmans are pretty diffcult to repair (if it suffered a drop.)

my problem is,, this is all new to me. i have done a few where i wish i had a second chance. practice does make perfect and never having done something before makes for really imperfect. it is a nice feeling to get one close to perfect but feels like doggy-doo under foot when you screw up. such it goes with life in general anyway....

rerooted - 2009-08-05 20:48

i forgot to ask...should i be afraid of those aiwas if i ever get one. i always like to take a look anyway. i don't usually don't give up there but i need to learn to put a project down when it gets really tough. i don't and that's my worst problem. some of these players are such challenging little machines to bring back to life.
