Aiwa HS-JX3000 boxed

walkingman - 2009-11-27 02:15

Hi I'm a newbie,

Short intro: I'm 41 and used to be owner of a WM2 with the orange headphones, a few years later I bought a D50 discman and after that I bought a Boodo Khan. I bought all these in the shop when they came out [I know, I know I have excellent taste lol]
I'm on Ebay a lot because of other things I collect and a few weeks ago I thought that it would be great to get my first walkman back.
Stumbled on this amazing website and the sheer knowledge on here and the great pictures got me even more excited.
I soon figured out that a WM2 was very popular and quite expensive.
I decided to look around a bit and buy me a vintage walkman that I could afford so I bought a Sony DD Quartz because it resembles the WM2 and 2 WM150's as well because they were very inexpesive and looked like new. These are arriving today I hope so I can test them.

Now the reason I started this topic.......
I also bought this Aiwa HS-JX3000 in it's original box. It'll arrive tomorrow or the beginning of next week. I didn't know anything about it 'cause I was mainly interested in Sony since I owned a few in the 80's.
I bought it 'cause it looked to be a special edition, it was gold and it had the original box.
I know the terms NIB or Boxed and so I know that a box always adds value to any collectable. I also know that the special colours [red, blue and in this case gold] are usualy more sought after.
I then did a search on this forum only to find out that it was a really special walkman.

Now I'm calling upon the experts to help me establish the value of the boxed JX3000. I don't know if it is in working condition or if it has been used at all, for all I know it could still be sealed but I didn't want to ask too many questions to the buyer and maybe raise suspicion. I will post pics as soon as it arrivesSmile

Hope I don't break any rules on here by talking $$ in a first post but I love walkmans and I love the 80's and hope to be around on this forum for quite some time [probably will because there's something special about walkmans and I'm a collector at hart]

Ciao,
Walkingman

Hello and welcome!

As far as I know, you are not breaking any rules here unless I am breaking one right now LOL. But anyway, the Aiwa HS-JX3000 is the best recording walkman manuffactured by Aiwa. With dolby b-c systems, amorphous head, super synthesizer tuner and BBE sound system it is really right up there with the best. Other people can tell you more about it since they own one and I don't. It is a special anniversry (I think) edition of the JX707. The difference is that JX3000 is gold and JX707 is black. Last time I saw the JX3000 with box, but it wasn't new I think, went for around 400$ if I remember correctly. That is a lot but not nearly as much as some other walkmans.

As far as collectormania goes, JX3000 pops up every once in a while on ebay so I wouldn't call it rare but it is high-end so it is definitely worth collecting.

Glad you dropped in! I hope you enjoy the forum and please post pics when you get it! With box and everything!

Regards!
Tuna

Thanks for the replies and technical specifications as well
Will let you know once I have the box if I want to keep it or sell it as I said I'm more a Sony guy but that's purely based on nostalgic sentiments, nothing rational there.

That picture of the boxed one is beautiful btw.

I managed to buy 2 cassette tape boxes filled wit a total of 24 sealed maxell tapes as wellSmile
Almost set to go! Still waiting for the DDquartz and the two WM501's though.

*edit* Tab was $32 for the Aiwa

JX3000 arrived today.
Looks incredible with a few issues though.
-Foam from headphones is gone and 1 side doesn't work
-Some corosion on battery adaptor
-Battery doesn't load [maybe too old]
-Protective bag is missing

DD3 arrived as well and is in perfect working order.

I've contacted the seller about the bag and will see if a friend can solve the headphone and corrosion issue
Here are some pics.

and I got these 2 boxes as well,

as far as batteries go let this be known. i have about 25 rechargeable aa right now. the size varies just enough so a few won't fit in certain players. just after a charge some swell also but usually shrink back to where they started. as for gumsticks the same goes,, only to an even wider varience. i never get bent out of shape anymore because a certain battery will not fit in a certain player.
