Greetings and a warm welcome to you new member. The Aiwa P1 ( P01 USA release ) is the sister to the first Aiwa TPS-30 ( which was release first) 1980 approx. ( P may stand for PLAYER ? AgentOrange our early model Guru probably knows answer, you can PM (private message click over his name to send )
The P1 did not have recording function and was Aiwa's first true player only portable cassette "Walkman". Very hardy units usually just belt failure typical of any pre 90's Walkmans.
I have both TPS-30 and P1. My P1 also has orig. headphones here are pictures. Do you have the P1 unit?

AIWA P1

I have not listened to the Aiwa headphones in some time. I must say using my Panasonic RQ-SX75 and Sony DC2 the high frequency response and openness of the M33's is totally amazing. Even more so that they are very early 80's vintage. Compared to my trusty daily ( not critical listening) Koss Port-A-Pro's the Aiwa's have much better highs and clarity. Aiwa does not have the low punch but lows are realistic.
Can anyone verify if the M33 was the headphone that came with TPS-30 ?

Hello. Thanks for the response. Like so many of these early stereos, there is little information out there, so it's good to be able to talk to people who know! I have just bought the P1 and it is on its way to me as we speak. No original headphones though

this is truly amazing collection.
i consider Aiwa the best of the best for my ears ! (Dunno for others)

COuld any walkman brand compete with Aiwa anyhow?

I remember seeing something a bit like that when I was buying my HS-PX101 in 1988. Mine has many battlescars from years of use, but my brother bought one as well, & his survived the years much better:

just got a TP-S30 for 10$
from local adds.

He was kind to lower the price because it was not working.

i finally got my hs-fo7 aiwas both running. the sound on both reminds me of a wm-d3. i have the gold and silver but i think i am missing the black and any other colors i don't know about. the hard part for me was getting the screw holes lined up properly. they are also a bit of a puzzle getting the body pieces to align properly. the gold aiwa had no belt at all inside so i just made a good guess. somebody for some unknown reason didn't bother to put a belt on it. the silver was the tough one though. the belt had turned into a tar like substance which took at least an hour to clean up with alchol. i don't think there was even 1/2 inch left in one piece. the sound they put out was well worth the effort. way back walkgirl said she got her gold one running except for the ff and reverse. mine seem to be working ok. i thank walkgirl for giving me the nerve to give them my best effort. she said her brother did it in 1/2 hour. one of the screws took me that long just by itself but thanks very much for that old post.....
