Hello all. And a happy new year. I Have a very large collection of old audio brocures. Dating from the late 80's and early 90's. Sony aiwa pioneer technics and so on. I was going through them a few days back, and i came across this. The sharp JC-H99 Cassette walkman. At the time (1992) this player was the lightest cassette walkman available. Weighing in at only 99 grams, yes 99 grams. When you consider that the panasonic RQ-S80 (which was tiny) weighed 153 grams, this thing was amazingly lightweight. Its body was made of carbon fiber. It had an inline remote, and also amorphous head. This player was truly an amazing piece of engineering, from a manufacturer not known for producing top end portable cassette players. Has anyone got one of these players, or seen one. I would guess they are very rare. Regards. Derek.
Yes, I have one... it belonged to an NBA player named Dikembe Mutombo! It has no controls on the unit, that is one reason it is so light...
Do You have a picture that you could show of this Sharp JC-H99 & how does it compare in size to a Sony Wm-10 ?
Hello. I am a bit of a novice when it comes to uploading pictures. I will try and upload a picture when i figure it out. Cheers.
We did a piece a few months ago around finding the smallest walkman, the Panasonic did well but there were smaller, I recall we concluded the Sanyo JJ won in the end.
Here are some pics of the Panasonic & Sanyo together, Panasonic is centre in top pic & top in bottom pic.
Thanks for re-posting those pics. What model is the Panasonic and is the Sanyo a JJ-P4?
