mabey if you and i and 8 other people could pool all our cash we could buy it. then about every once a month pass it to the nest time sharer. i am low on bucks and the month isn't near over.

i'll tell you the closest i'll ever get to one of those is the pictures on the web-site of mabey a museum. most of the players i buy are already broken and usually need a belt of if i feel lucky i will try to replace the female part of the headphone plugin. sometimes those can even be difficult. right now i am burried under a bunch of broken players that need belts and a good cleaning and lube. i can't afford the very expensive ones even if they are broken. they can be easy to rebelt but the upfront cost of the dead one can be over 100 dollars. then, your taking a chance that something electrical is the problem. when that happens they go into a box that i hope someday i can come back to when i catch on to more of the electronic workings. right now i have very little knowledge of that aspect like some of the people do. but i'm sure you know that 2/3 are the belt. did you ever try that aiwa cj- i can't remember the rest. anyway very few people can even change the belt including me. i tried and really made a mess of it. the whole player must be dissassembled to just get to the belt. i remember only 2 people on the internet that have done it. one said it took him the whole weekend.

For someone like me who only buy products because I like them and what to use it, the price is too high.

I only buy vinyl, I missed out on the latest Grace Jones album Hurricane on vinyl.

I have now found out that Vinyl Factory are doing a limited run of 500 copies with an extra vinyl and signed by Grace Jones, for £300. To me that is too much, I want to play it and not interested in the re-sale value.
I have friends that have paid more for a 7” single but that is okay as they are collectors.

Yes i agree as that is a high price. Mind you if it is sold then the one i got one of about $150 must be a snip indeed.

The only problem with NIB items is that they're not always NIB but rather MIB. It's a bit of a grey line / gamble.

How did you do your comparisons what did you use, I don’t mean lab specs using oscilloscope etc. Did you hook them up to anything revealing / isolate them away from external sounds / noise so you are just listening to the music the equipments are playing?

Hello Chris, I made three types of listening, only with the WM-D6C, the wm-dd9 and the wm-dc2, which are the only with dolby C on the test bench have demonstrated excellent performance. Hi dottor walkman thanks for your explanations of what you have done. It’s good to see people with a passion from personal stereo’s like the rest of us here.

I have to admit that I did my tests using unmodified D6C, DC2 and DD9 without Noise Reduction. I am not a fan of NR, I don’t even use NR on my home Deck which is a Nakamichi CR7. I find the sound to be better and more natural without NR.
Also I only ever use TDK MA-XG. I did my test using headphones and the connected to my hi-fi system.

The DD9 struggled to drive the Etymotic ER-4S so I switched to the Bang and Olufsen EarSet 3, which was a better match for the DD9.

Like you while I tested them on the main system, I used the lineout from the D6C and DC2 but had to use the headphone socket on the DD9.

In my test of the unmodified units the D6C came first followed by DC2 then the DD9 and the DD33 coming in a long way behind.

You are correct some audiophile do not like personal stereo’s compared to home players. For me these personal stereo’s are the best thing for my music on the move and I only ever listen to headphones on the move, once home I use the main system.

Incidentally what tapes did you use for your tests?

When I do a demo for them using the D6C or DC2 Vs an mp3 player, I like the expression on their faces when the Walkman blows the mp3 player away (mainly iPod’s). That is a cool feeling.
