Hi all, Lately a lot of the cassettes am acquiring have music on them. WHAT IS THE BEST BULK ERASER machine for cassette tapes. Something that can be found on the internet or Ebay. PLEASE list the mfg. and model number and price they go for if you have knowledge of this. As I remember from long ago using a bulk eraser gives better results than a home deck. ALSO looking for the speed of bulk erasing as I think most machines run at a speed much higher than standard.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Also is the erasure of music on metal tapes such as SUANO ( by That's) different procedure or machine needed than for say TDK SA or chrome equivalent tape?
A bulk eraser that does a better job than a good quality home deck? Highly unlikely.
Well not exactly cheap nor can you go out and buy one, my friend that works in a hospital always uses the MRI Scanner at work.
Sorry not practical for most people.
ha ha nice one walkgirl
John I did have this bulk eraser - I think it was Tascam but can't say for sure. I was never satisfied with it. It worked well on ferrics and cheaper type-2s like the MA but it had problems erasing the more expensive type-2s and metals. It never gacve the results I was expecting so I gave it away. A good quality cassette deck that does a good job of recording a metal tape will certainbly do a good job of erasing one in my experience. It is slower and you have to use your deck but at least the erasing is done like it is supposed to be.
I think Nakamichi manufactured those and of course Tascam/Teac. It is a useful device if it is working properly.

Hi John! I highly recommend againt erasure of That's Suono tape. This tape is the equivalent of Sony Super Metal Master and TDK MA-XG tapes with it's sonic possibilities. For recording on such a deck you need to have a top quality machine really and even above average decks are usually not good enough. So they will not be good enough at erasing the Suono as well. I don't think a bulk eraser would do a good job here, sorry.
I5 has been a long time since I used one. I know the errasure time depends on the type of the tape you are erasing and on the status of the eraser. I thin k you had to let it warm up first. But anyway, In found it unpractical nad very limited in terms of performance.
Suono is one of the best tapes I have ever used. TZhe shell is simply magnificent with that rubber-like material to absorb the vibrations. The tape itself is a bit quirky and strange. It is not completely flat so the deck needs to have a rather comprehensive array of calibration features to flatten the response. Also, though it usually doesn't matter as long as the bias frequency is at least 160kHz, the head preamps are a critical factor. That is also true when recording on the above mentioned TDK and Sony tapes.
I used to work for these guys years ago, very good stuff...
