Guess that walkman????

ao - 2010-11-23 03:06

Figured it would be fun to have a 'guess the walkman' game.

Feel free to post yours but to keep it interesting let's have obscure shots only i.e. top panels, switches and maybe even backs.

Here's an easy one to get things rolling...

minty - 2010-11-23 04:00

Sony WM-3.

retro - 2010-11-23 04:18

I'm going to fail miserably.

ao - 2010-11-23 05:06

OK, first round to DMC. Be warned, I have some stinkers.

Here's another...

johnedward - 2010-11-23 05:10

Ah the glorious looking WM-R2.

ao - 2010-11-23 05:26

Curses!

OK, up a level now...

minty - 2010-11-23 05:36

A sanyo maybe? Not sure which model.

ao - 2010-11-23 05:47

It's a Sony

minty - 2010-11-23 06:01

WM-4?

minty - 2010-11-23 06:05

a WM-4 does not have a tuner. I'm lost!

isolator42 - 2010-11-23 06:19

hmm. chunky build means it's not a late model. Radio with telescopic antenna & recording features should narrow it down...

Which one was based on the WM-4 but had a tuner & recording?

retro - 2010-11-23 06:40

OK, here's my attempt.

ao - 2010-11-23 06:52

Iso's sniffing round the right tree. Here's a clue, both mine & Retro's are in the same 'range'.

johnedward - 2010-11-23 07:10

Oh come on now gentleman and AO you said you had some "STINKERS". This Sony is the WA-11 Soundabout model fun

THIS IS FUN !! ...

ao - 2010-11-23 07:21

Wow, I'm impressed.

Try this....

Keep up at the back there!

johnedward - 2010-11-23 07:41

AHH... tap tap tap foot... hmmmmm THINK THINK...EUREKA VIOLA !!!

RETRO has posted the WA-55 recording model. You know RETRO only showing a ONE INCH CORNER is REALLY almost nothing to GO ON.

I think long ago Mr. Johnny Carson the late nite talk show host had a skit with a BIG Indian Turban on his head who could hold piece of paper to his forehead and tell what it said.

Carnac the Magnificent has been reborn ! JohnEdward

retro - 2010-11-23 07:53

Right JohnEdward, I was just thinking you guys are pros.

johnedward - 2010-11-23 08:00

OH DEAR LORDY... Fret Fret... sweat starting to drip down Carnac's forehead...

The Magnificent Carnac says :::::: jumpy

AO that is a SAISHO PS50 I also believe a few other companies used same mechanics/exterior renamed. A cloan model.

johnedward - 2010-11-23 08:25

NOW were REALLY going to turn up the heat guys and dolls explode explode good one

Here a beautiful PURPLE metallic player with RADIO.

CARNAC THE MAGNIFICENT CHALLENGES THE S2G FORUM anyone Identify the Manufacturing company AND MODEL Number !!

ao - 2010-11-23 08:25

Damn, this guy's good. Didn't want to get the big guns out so soon.

I'll be right back.

ao - 2010-11-23 08:27

Crieky, I've no idea on that one, I only do retro.

johnedward - 2010-11-23 08:35

THANK YOU AO , I am honored by your compliment.
thank you

So its official AO admits being stumped on the mystery PURPLE WALKMAN ! Who else shall join the stumped on CARNAC THE MAGNIFICENT's first mystery challenge ?

ao - 2010-11-23 08:56

Looks like some weird Asian Aiwa to me, anyone else?

OK, try this...

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 09:08

That looks very similar to a Sanyo M-G38DT or the fisher clone, but it's not quite the same.Does it have a tuner pack and built in speaker?

ao - 2010-11-23 09:12

Close enough, it's a Fisher PH-35

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 09:17

Very similar.
How about this.

johnedward - 2010-11-23 09:21

Is this a BIG GUN AO ???? The top view walkman from AO ....Hmmmm
a moment of thinking... A moment of confusion as FISHER was also Sanyo many models. might have got me on this one but mechanicals / exterior nearly same except Fisher has speaker, Sanyo does not. Shall we call it a Draw AO ?
VIOLA

Dave your right its a SANYO but
correct model is the MG-100 no radio tuner pack.
That is the MG-110DT.

SANYO MG-100

DAVE your MG-38DT is very nearly like my MG-34DT but its easy to see that yours has the updated more modern function controls taken off of side and put on end ( better) Apparently the rest of machine probably is same including same model FM tuner pack.

SANYO MG-34DT

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 09:31

Nice Sanyo very similar to my M-G1's

Here's my Sanyo M-G38DT

Here's another view.

ao - 2010-11-23 09:40

Wow, I do like that red one. I'm guessing by the switch layout that it's a Sony?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 09:42

I agree it does look very Sony like but it's not a Sony.

johnedward - 2010-11-23 09:44

OH MY GOD.... NO NO NOOOOOO
Dave how could you wreck my perfect record....
DRATS OH DARN
That red side view I can only guess it close enough to be a Aiwa HS-J series from 82/83. To make it more tough I believe it is a Japan only release model.. making seeing or having one a real rarity.....

CARNAC THE MAGNIFICENT

Ok one more view but this is a rare machine, well outside of Japan.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 09:55

Ok just the manufacturer, next picture will be the front.

ao - 2010-11-23 09:57

It has hints of numerous other models. I'm assuming it's a make we've heard of or is it a total wild card?

Anyway, here's my next one...

ao - 2010-11-23 10:01

Wait a minute, I'm guessing here than the two jacks aren't for headphones so one is definately for a mic, so, a wild guess, but is this a weird Karaoke model?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 10:03

It's a common make.
That one looks liks an Aiwa but I have no idea of a model number.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 10:08

No it's not Karaoke rare but it is a recorder forward and reverse it does have a built in mic or you can record from the radio.

ao - 2010-11-23 10:10

OK Dave, got it, well, sort of.

Your's is 100% Sanyo.

I have it's recording half cousin...

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 10:12

Yes it's a very nice Sanyo MR-63, here's the front.

ao - 2010-11-23 10:20

Wow, you learn something new every day, that's a superb little unit, where did you find it?

Any guesses on my Aiwa lookalike (nope, it's not an Aiwa) before Carnac The Magnificent puts us out of our misery?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 10:40

No still haven't got clue yet, the Sanyo came from Ebay surprise surprise $10 needed a new belt very difficult to replace, but works well now.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 10:48

Just thought it could be Realistic I have a few Aiwa's in disguise, maybe Universum or perhaps even a Unisef or even Grundig.

ao - 2010-11-23 10:54

I tip my hat to you sir, it's a Universum City Bumler...

Next up...

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 11:02

Yeah Universum thought it could be, this one looks familiar I'm sure I have a similar one somewhere, I'm gonna have a look.

Hey ya AO, looks like we have a clone situation. Your Universum.
Here is the Unitech mini1003AF with tuner module but NO antenna

ao - 2010-11-23 12:19

That is interesting. I'm sure this was a 'design' that Aiwa let many use...

Mine has it's tuner built in.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 12:45

This topic is diversing now but it's very interesting to see how many different brands share the same mechanics this must be a cost cutting excercise. In the picture below is a JVC CQ-22, Ferguson 3T29, Sanyo M-G90 and an Akai PM-R2 and they all have the same high quality transport.

ao - 2010-11-23 13:06

I know too that Boots own brand used this mechanism too. Are we sure that these are the same as the Aiwa P-02 transport?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 13:09

No there not the same it's just an example of different brands sharing the same mechanics off topic I know but very interesting.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 13:21

Ok back on topic how about this one, probably easy but not a common player.
