Guess that walkman????

ao - 2010-11-23 13:36

Bloody hell, never seen that one before. I'm guessing this one also uses this transport?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 13:46

Very similar except no auto reverse, and this was there answer to Sony's sports models.

minty - 2010-11-23 13:49

ao - 2010-11-23 13:59

Is it old?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 14:00

Well that must be an Aiwa, but which one?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 14:05

We still haven't worked out Johns yet

Kinda looks like a Panasonic or maybe a Kenwood.

ao - 2010-11-23 14:09

Johns is a tough one. DMC, is your Aiwa one of those fancy JX models?

minty - 2010-11-23 14:10

1991 i believe!

minty - 2010-11-23 14:13

Yes agentorange. A bit to late for your liking i would think.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 14:14

I know DMC's it's a HS-JX2000 10th anniversary model

Ok here is another picture and clue it is NOT a Panasonic or one of the big names in Walkman. The company is still in business today in electronics. It is most certainly NOT SONY.

minty - 2010-11-23 14:18

Almost correct. It is a silver jx-505.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 14:20

Not far away it was just that straight edge and the auto preset button very similar

minty - 2010-11-23 14:23

They are identical units. Just different colour.

ao - 2010-11-23 14:24

Good one though...

So, this blue 'thing'. Come on, what is it?

minty - 2010-11-23 14:26

A sharp maybe?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 14:29

This will look familiar but it's different what is it? It's mono so not strictly a "Walkman" but there first stereo player was based on it.

minty - 2010-11-23 14:31

The battery terminals look similar to those on a sharp jc-k99.

johnedward - 2010-11-23 14:33

The great Carmac the Magnificent's "Blue Thing" actually very purple just not show under flash that color very well.
DMC interesting guess but nope not a Sharp.
Another clue to its oddity....It is a FM Radio but NO display of any kind on the actual player to indicate radio tuning/station etc. The remote has a LCD display and detailed controls for player and radio functions. And smartly the plug from "EARBUD" ....(another clue) has std. plug no special mini plug like Sony's mini plug.

The great and Powerful brother of "OZ" CARNAC THE MAGNIFICENT has piered into his crystal ball and the image comes back.....

Dave great tough one ::: IT IS A SANYO and yes it is the precursor to the fantastic M5550 !!
Though we should stick to AO rule of what a walkman is... portable, stereo and we can allow speakers only if Stereo Jack on player.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 14:51

Well I guess but it does have a "stereo" head it uses the other track for index marking, this is the only one I've seen and it's boxed.

johnedward - 2010-11-23 15:06

Dave WOW boxed too yes never seen one I picked it up from layout of controls and way print is on stop and play key and black center band. Am glad you posted no worries just meant about staying with stereo , portable and stereo Jack on player if speaker is that opening up to MONO portables adds 70 -79 an area I would guess most of us collectors on here have little or zero knowledge of or models. It would expand an already nearly limitless amount of players to guess ;-) I only have one "antique" Sony BM10 also boxed a mono specialized Dictation machine. Talk about heavy built like Sherman or Tiger Tank! Note twice size of TPS-L2

minty - 2010-11-23 15:14

Is it a late aiwa. Made when sony took control of them?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 15:15

Yeah I like those early Sony's.
Going off topic even more now just saw this on Yahoo Japan, this would be so nice to own.

I have a silver one in my 'to flog soon' queue/ It's a nice unit actually.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 15:21

Ok need to get back on topic so we still have this one of mine.

And Johns blue thing sorry purple thing.

OK Guys and Dolls.....Daves first sport model not a SONY...... lets jump in here. I am going to guess AIWA as the controls /knobs are so similar to Sony's which indicate shared tech that Sony did with Aiwa. Only other guess its the first SANYO sport model.....
VERY TOUGH..... time for another CLUE DAVE

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 15:31

Well done John it is Sanyo's first sports model WR-66 The Outsider, you don't see these often.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 15:35

Still got Cris's as well

johnedward - 2010-11-23 16:01

Ok Carnac the Magnificent mind is blurred / tired from the Furious pace of guess the identity today...Best I come up with on Cris's is one of those Westman /Grundig cloans that Autoreverser loves so much. The twin HP usually are on side of this cloan.
CRIS we need another CLUE/view

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 16:06

Yeah should have got that I have some of these somewhere with the heaphone sockets on the sides, oh well.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 16:17

Ok last one from me today

CARNAC the MAGNIFICIENT

Believe my sight into the UNKNOWN may be a little fuzzy this late at night here in USA... Dave I definitely go with it is a AIWA or KENWOOD. Unsure of Kenwood model number but believe this could be the HS-P202MIII if Aiwa.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-23 22:39

You're correct of course it is a HS-P202 but I don't think it's a III, the unt and instructions only say HS-P202/202A, I like it in white.

Sorry, not thinking straight. This is a lovely little unit, esp in red.

I was saying that I have a silver JVC version in my 'for sale' queue.

ao - 2010-11-24 00:48

Next up we have this beastie...

johnedward - 2010-11-24 07:44

THE PURPLE "THING"

CARNAC THE MAGNIFICENT

ALRIGHTY RIGHT NOW Guys and Dolls... stumped you are wiggle head bash tantrum

I will give ONE more clue and photo , now you have all but the back of player.

PREVIOUS CLUES

Ok here is another picture and clue it is NOT a Panasonic or one of the big names in Walkman. The company is still in business today in electronics. It is most certainly NOT SONY.

The great Carmac the Magnificent's "Blue Thing" actually very purple metallic just not show under flash that color very well.

MEMBERS GUESSES
AO said “weird Asian Aiwa” NOPE
mrp32Dave: guessed PANASONIC NOPE
Derek Mc Caffrey : guessed SHARP NOPE
rofl

LAST CLUE

The front of player does NOT have the makers name on it. Instead a cute trade name is there used by this manufacture. Such as Sony used Soundabout, Pressman, Walkman, Panasonic "Stereo To Go", Philips " Skymaster and so on.
CLUE : This maker used TWO WORDS.

Man this thread is expanding faster than I can keep up...not that I would be good at guessing any of these. The closest I came to the "Blue Thing" was LG.

@mrp32Dave
I knew your red MR-63 looked familiar. I was going to search my collection to compare but it was guessed right already. When you mentioned that you bought it off of ebay mind wheels started turning. Sure enough I sold this on ebay and you bought it Smile Glad to help another stereo2go member add to their collection. It is an admirable machine.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-24 09:44
