Guess that walkman????

mrp32dave - 2010-11-26 09:55

Good enough it's rather nice Sanyo M-G1

ao - 2010-11-26 09:56

Oh Dave, what have you done? She was my first, in red though.

Yeah, I struck lucky with the WM-R15...The walkman itself, though plasticky, is very old (84) based on the WM-6 transport with the heads on the opposite side to the transport keys. But the headphones are the best bit.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-26 09:59

Nice and boxed too, yeah the headphones are great! Or should that be micphones?

ao - 2010-11-26 10:18

Considering the M-G1 cost £50 in 1983, it was pretty strong competition for the WM-2 which actually cost £110... Anyway, that was my justification for buying it 28 years ago.

Speaking of the Devil in Red Boxed Fisher PH-10. Works perfectly orig. belt still and great sound as the WM-2 Sony.

INTERESTING NOTE : PITCH CONTROL great feature Sony WM-2 lacked Both Sanyo and Fisher earlier models often had this great feature.

MYSTERY WALKMAN #3

good one

johnedward - 2010-11-26 15:06

Dave tough one... yes it has the mechanics of the SANYO (mentioned by Coolcol) I identify it a JJ series but its not one of the common models which I have several of. Of note is the add on battery is rounded on bottom. The Sanyo's I have in JJ model line have squared add on battery cases. I might venture a guess this is a FISHER brand of some Sanyo JJ series model.

Not hard to get the brand if it's not a Fisher or sanyo, but what is the correct model number?
Here's another picture.

Ok I'm going to reveal the Kenwood, it's a very nice CP-3X.

coolcol - 2010-11-27 01:23

I has a feeling it is a kenwood but not sure model number.

John the PEDOMETER is a Sanyo Sportable from 1994 not sure of the model number though, it could be a SPT1000?

DAVE your first one is a TOSHIBA KT series. I have the recording version of yours with same 3 level EQ. Mine is the KT-4087 2nd from left in picture. Yours is probably the KT-4086.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-27 08:57

John, I'll give you that, but it's a very nice KT-V760Mk2 Walky.

Toshiba made this series in a variety of colours, but you hardly see them outside Japan?
I was lucky to find a red KT-V670.

johnedward - 2010-11-27 19:54

Seems Carnac's 2nd mystery Walkman no one guessed the manufacturing company. Dave has a clone of this or even maybe my model is a clone too. The maker of this unusual walkman is ITT (International Telephone & Telegraph ). Does anyone know if ITT made any other WALKMANS PLEASE POST.

ITT Background History

The company was founded in 1920 as International Telephone & Telegraph. During the 1960s and 1970s, under the leadership of its CEO Harold Geneen the company rose to prominence as the archetypal conglomerate, deriving its growth from hundreds of acquisitions in diversified industries. ITT divested its telecommunications assets in 1986, and in 1995 spun off its non-manufacturing divisions, later to be purchased by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.
In 1996, the company became ITT Industries, Inc., but changed its name back to ITT Corporation in 2006.
ITT Corporation (NYSE: ITT) is a global diversified manufacturing company with 2008 revenues of $11.7 billion. ITT participates in global markets including water and fluids management, defense and security, and motion and flow control. Forbes.com named ITT Corporation to its list of "America's Best Managed Companies" for 2008, and awarded the company the top spot in the conglomerates category.

ao - 2010-11-28 03:32

Gents, why is it that we're discovering these brilliant units hidden within the bowels of our collections now? These beauties should have been showcased years ago.

This gives me an idea, we should have a walkman of the week post where we focus just on that model. What do you think?

mrp32dave - 2010-11-28 03:42

Cris to be honest I didn't think there would be much interest in Kenwoods for example, but then again they are not common so maybe I was wrong.
I have a great number of boxed mostly new "lesser"? brand models but probably equally interesting. I think the Walkman of the week post idea is great, and should bring out some of those hidden raraties.

johnedward - 2010-11-28 14:14

Oh Nicole You made me laugh greatly when I read your guess for my #5 mystery Walkman. IF no one guesses this recording model we will just have to give it your name!!

AO that's a brilliant topic. You should outline a set of RULES so it best stays on topic. Curious when you say focus on model do you mean post say the WM-7 and rest of forum discusses or adds pictures of their models that are WM-7 which would just be different colors ( Silver/Black for WM-7). This means you would choose the model each week? Or would you have each member post his weekly choice of model. Should set weekend as post date weekly keeping new posts not so spread out with so many members. Members posting should include not just pictures but as much information about the model as they can share. Including interesting stories how it was acquired or its past ownership history often can be fun too.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-28 14:34

John, that looks like a Toshiba?, don't know model number yet.

Sorry Dave it is not a Toshiba.
Unusual 3 level TONE control this Mystery Walkman. Almost always it is only Low / High.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-28 15:30

Maybe Panasonic then?, I have one with a 3 pos switch.

johnedward - 2010-11-28 17:01

Again Dave Sorry NO it is NOT a Panasonic. As you can tell from size of HP jacks to the size of end of player this is NOT a big brick sized player.

Bloody Incredible !! You are 100 percent CORRECT right down to the model number !! well done
At least I succeeded in stumping everyone else for 2 days. good one

Indeed it is the HITACHI CP-90D and yes I own this one. Sadly like most of these "Detachables" you usually find
only the cassette player or the Boomer without the Walkman player. I suppose this is very valuable to someone who has the boombox but missing the Walkman part of it.

[B]HITACHI CP-90D[/B

ao - 2010-11-30 07:24

I recognised it by Hitachi's unmistakable approach to stuffing as much text as possible around the switches. I've always loved this Hitachi set up, I recall member Isolator45 as having one.

While watching the Walkman video I stumbled across the black kitten video. Very cute. Is it yours?

I do not know what that is Agent, but it does play very well! Cool

John I would have never got that one, didn't even think about detatchables from boxes and I have a few, but not that one.

mrp32dave - 2010-11-30 09:28

Still haven't got this one yet.

walkgirl - 2010-11-30 09:41

That must be a aiwa with that middle knob and the 3 little ones!! Smile

ao - 2010-11-30 10:18

"Middle Knob" Eek

ao - 2010-11-30 10:20

If I know Dave then this is no Aiwa, looks to me like a cheaper brand who took on Aiwa's 'Middle Knob' technology. This unit looks late, I'd say 95-ish
