I'm wondering if there are any cool walkmans that have dual LED VU meters.....I seen a recorder on the move "the brave one" which looked like it had some "peak hold" leds as it recorded......any pics of that or other cool gadgets with em?

there is an Aiwa (Titanium) that has a spectrum analyzer, and the pro walkman has a single LED row...

are there any images of these gems?

Yeah, this is the Aiwa HS-PX100. A bit too late for my tastes (1991 I think) so, despite the titanium case stuffed with goodies the unit was actually quite ordinary with a nothing special movement. Quite pricey when new (£180), to be honest I don't think there's been a more expensive unit since.

It was hailed as the DD9 beater but it was way, way off. Sound quality was OK but build quality wasn't a patch on the Sony.

Anywayz, the machine has 4 preset EQ: Flat, Rock, Jazz, Pops... the BBE Sound has 2 levels, but 2 levels of DSL bass boost cannot be set manually as it is part of the preset EQ... The title of the chosen EQ is listed across the top of the display. Both Flat and Pops turn DSL off, Rock use level 1, Jazz use level 2... The bass cannot be felt unless I use BBE level 1 or off... Whenever a EQ is chosen, the large spectral display would animate the EQ title across the screen in super huge letters, and then on the 7 columns individual bars would rain down to show the EQ setting... and then they dissappear as the display turns into a spectral analysis screen... The seven columns are labeled as follows: DSL BASS, 100Hz, 330Hz, 1kHz, 3.3kHz, 10Khz, LEVEL.

There are three different LEDs for the battery level meter, green is FULL, yellow is MID, and red is EMPTY. There are also the direction indicator (not animated dammit), and a status display with icons for Dolby B or C, and Tape Bias.

It has blank skip and one song skip functions... and no there's no sexy girl voice to tell you what button you have pressed, just stupid beeps but nice sounding beeps compare to the Sony... And for some reason, the stock HP-V14 earphone that is soldered onto the remote sounds stupidly good compare to many Sonys... This is crazy!

Now the downside, the battery life is crap! Well, it does put out 20mW+20mW to the headphone out... and it uses 2 AAA batteries or/and one lead-acid rechargable battery.... the rechargable battery would last a whole 90mins if lucky... -___-!

Well the machine sounds really nice... it's not upto the point where I would ditch my Sony machines... it just sounds... different... Let's just say that the PX1000 can smoke my D-777 Discman by a mile... but when compare to my Sony WM-EX80 tape player, the Aiwa can do all the Sony's tricks just as well, plus a few more in the bag... namely the BBE Sound System, this thing just make everything sound better, more presence and life like..

I sold this unit on eBay for £200 a year or so ago, it did have it's box plus all accesories. Sadly, they don't come up too often

Give me a DC2, DD9, D6C any day.
