What walkman are you walking to?

tranxmetal - 2007-08-26 15:41

Mmmmmm..... The WM-FX33. This is my Walkman for every day, i call this WM the *battle tank* for some features SHOCK-PROOF (really, this WM is solid like a rock) fantastic mega-bass sound, good quality radio reception, lightweight, and amazing long running time on batteries using cassettes.

I can't to upload pictures here...

This week I've been jammin Missing Persons on my Aiwa HS-PO5. It sounds good with a new belt installed, and I like how it fits the hand, all the controls with the thumb and index finger.

- 2007-09-12 21:28

i just got an old sony wm-11. very plain and the battery cover won't stay on without a rubberband. i have probably used it around 20 hours and is working perfectly. sound is like new and the spooling is perfect. was cheap too.

jcyellocar - 2007-09-13 14:03

Boney M on my Citizen JWS 577K. Smile

wombat - 2007-09-14 22:25

I've been craving to hear an old school-break dance--street jam. Did not know who or what.

SEARCHED HARD,

saw a name:
it is Herbie Hancock / Rockit.

zx280 - 2007-09-15 01:24

autoreverser - 2007-12-16 12:56

today listened to a great live-recording of HARMONIA (eeeearly electronic stuff...) from 1974 on a WM-7 - thanks to board-member TOBI, he got me digging thru my goodies today !!!

nak.d - 2007-12-24 00:19

Sony DD 9 being fed my Bryan Adams RECKLESS tape (Original Chrome Tape still in fab condition and sounding surprisingly drop-out free). Sounded uncommonly good!

- 2007-12-25 23:06

last time was my wm-11 with rubber band to hold batteries in. it now has a new battery cover and the ribbon to keep it form dropping loose. this time a wm-3 with a new belt. what a job that was so now it has to get some play so i turned it loose with some grateful dead.

jcyellocar - 2007-12-26 06:26

Aiwa SP390
AM radio ---- ESPN radio

This is a later model "sports model" Aiwa I bought for a few bucks about a year ago. The FM sounds just like AM sound quality wise. Tape deck not much better.

skippy1969 - 2007-12-26 08:17

Currently listen to a Japanese Spec WM-F107 Solar Sports Walkman. Only listen to TV sound or AM.

ao - 2008-01-06 04:03

Oh good choice sir.

baby.boomer - 2008-01-06 10:01

Usually when I listen to music, it's on a boombox or component stereo, but today felt like the right time to choose a walkman, so I could keep the world out and the music in. My choice:

The Sanyo MGR60...

...and on cassette: GTR, one of the greatest "superbands" ever, featuring Steve Hackett, Steve Howe, and superb vocalist Max Bacon. Nothing like hearing "When the Heart Rules the Mind" and "The Hunter" to make it feel like 1986 all over again! *sigh*

wow, here it's my part again !!!

i do have AT LEAST 6 similar units, with or without radio, all different brands (Uiversum, Watson etc., would have to diggem out...), nice and tough built unit, hey cris, have a lough, but i lik'em !

ao - 2008-01-06 13:40

I got one too, Universume City Bumler it's called.

It's styled around the Aiwa HS-P02

autoreverser - 2008-01-06 13:53

Universum is the name of all home-electronics of the german mail-order-warehouse QUELLE (one of the biggest ones in the world...), they labelled many good makes in their name, there's loads of good portable stereos& bbx's under this name out there... and, b.t.w., there's a 'city-bummler' by Universum with my beloved Westman inside...

...mission impossible

...to be continued...

good choice of music Smile
Toe The Line (on the same album) is an absolute prog-rock classic. Someone I knew was a cousin of Steve Hackett, so I ended up being a big fan of some of this stuff, esp Genesis & Asia. I'm very happy the original Asia line-up are back together, with a new album on the way too. Seeing them live (again) in a few weeks...

back on topic - it's the iPod for me now. Look, it's got nearly 7000 songs on it & the entire Blackadder back catalogue. I'm only human...

Wow! I didn't know...
a) that the original Asia is (for UK: are) back together,
b) that a new album is (for UK: is) in the works,
c) that they're touring.
This is VERY, VERY good news! Wish I could go with you to see them live... although I'd probably annoy you with all the shouting and whistling I'd do! Razz

skippy1969 - 2008-01-10 01:26

I love Asia too,BBoomer. Nod Yes

MZ-N505 TypeR - Yea, its a minidisk player, but it does say "walkman" on it...

I'm using a pair of Audio Technica headphones and listening to "the best of Cameo."

My wife is reading, so I'm in "quiet" mode.

Does anyone have anything to say about the newer generation WM-FX290? I'm thinking about getting one to listen to tapes with when on the go...

- 2008-05-16 18:53

My personal choice of walkman is my:Panasonic RX-1924 walkman. If somebody can paste a pic of it from Kristi Carr LOOOOOKKKKKK 2 that would really rock! The picture Im refering to is the one that they show the walkman facing forward.I hope some member on stereo2go could do that for me being that I dont know how to paste pics. Thanks for reading this.80s walkmans rule!Kristi C.

jhaan92 - 2008-09-21 17:27

I still have my Sharp JC-77 cassette player. Nobody has ever really heard of it...I got it from my dad when I got his Pioneer CT-F1250 cass. deck and all of his tapes. I use to use a Sony Walkman (sorry, I don't remember the model # but it cost me about 65 bucks in 1999), and when I got this one, it sounded much nicer.

Interestingly enough, if you want to listen to a tape, the AM/FM tuner electronics are shaped like a cassette, and are to be removed when you listen to a tape....how odd. The only thing that really stinks is that it takes AAA batteries, and they don't last long!

Jason

skippy1969 - 2008-09-22 06:19

Hey Jason,I have a Sharp JC-77 also. It's a pretty nice unit. Big Grin

I'm listening to James Brown's King Heroin through my Sony WM-WX777

aa.fussy - 2008-10-05 00:24

Michael Jackson's Dangerous on the Aiwa HS-P05.

rerooted - 2008-10-05 01:20

i don't think you can wear out the sony cd players D-EJ621----D-EJ626. i have one which i bought new and the paint is wearing off the sides from so much use but it never quits. i still like the cassette players better though. some of the old aiwa cassette players are made of steel too. i am thinking of paint touch-up on an aiwa HS-P06 as it seems invincible too.

aa.fussy - 2008-10-05 15:47

My Aiwa is made from steel and is quite durable.

rerooted - 2008-10-05 22:44

right--my hs-po6 aiwa is all metal except the front door which is where the wear shows along with the metal plated strip down the front side. it will take a bit of careful taping of the lettering and a good cleaning of the plastic to get off any oils. i don't know if the belt has ever been changed but it runs nice and tight. the metal parts are in very good condition with the origonal color very crisp. i may forget about keeping the grey color there now and get creative. i guess some may think this a big mistake but i am going to get creative.

evanelpus - 2008-10-08 05:42

My turn! Well, I just got myself a Cybernet Mini Concert auto-reverse walkman in metallic copper and silver finish, with a mid-brown leatherette outer case, what a find! The tinted cassette door has a checkerboard pattern on it, a totally stunning looker! Unfortunately, I can't post a photo but as soon as I can, you gotta see this little beauty! P.S. Venetian Snares, Finntroll and a little classic YMO never sounded so good!

aa.fussy - 2008-10-17 06:02

The Wiz musical soundtrack from 1975 on the Sharp JC-108.

There is nothing wrong with a long topic and if you want to continue it, why not?

Walkman folks can have their own "what are you listening to" type thread if they don't want to use Toocool's one.

Yep, hasn't hurt Toolcool's music thread. Even if it takes ages to load!
