I'm always really happy to find a classic era G.E. portable. My inventory includes a transister radio, some tabletop/portable radios, boomboxes of course, and a few walkmans. This is the latest edition to my collection and I'm really happy to have found it.It is a G.E. model 3-5440A with its original headphones. Also taped to this find was an original 2 piece G.E. nickel cadmium battery charger. The overall condition of this example is about as new as you could hope to find. Its as if someone took it out of the box and stuck it in a drawer for more than 25 years!I've been wanting one of the old really classic walkmans for some time. Finally,I have one with a metal piano style lid hinge and even a "metal" tape switch! The tape head looks like glistening metal and brand new.The only thing wrong with it is a slipping belt.Thats to be expected I suppose after 25 years of sitting around! If I understand "8)tracks" G.E. date code crack correctly, this one might have been produced in the 5th production run,44th week,in the year 1982.Another classic era G.E. for $2.06! WooooooHOOOOOOOOOO! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Cool

That is a very nice and rare walkman Jovie!
I do like how the buttons are flush, and the duo
volume knob Cool, and even the nice original
headphone with the square edge foams Smile

I even see some buttons I never did see on a walkman
before!, like the H M L tone knob, and the Hi cut knob!? , what does that one do??

Oh yes!, now I see!, the play knobs look rather
similar to the sony dd ones!!

You did buy wisely Jovie Big Grin

Oh yes, check PM please.

Never seen one of these before, not sure I like it that much, looks a bit cheap but it's always good to see something so old turn up in such excelent shape.

Thanks Skippy,Walkgirl,Agent.

Agent-I'm still learning about walkmans. This is the highest quality I have ever found.Unless there are examples that have completely metal casings I cannot imagine one of higher quality. It would seem to me that if you find this example of unacceptably poor quality that your collection could never include very many models.

I'm amused by the way the norm/metal/hi cut switch is also labelled as a 3 stage tone switch.

Don't know why...
