I always found it strange that JVC didn't feature more prominently in the walkman arena. All their designs appeared to 'borrow' or 'interpret' elements from other units rather be innovative like their competitors. The real shame was that JVCs from this period were some of the finest quality around.
The (WM-10-esque) brilliant but cumbersome collapsible body of the 1985 CX wasn't everybody's cup of tea and it's interesting that JVC decided not to highlight this feature in the above brochure despite the entire design being focused around it, almost as if they too were slightly ashamed of it.
I would like one of those CX-R7s though.

That's an great observation. No photos demonstrate much of anything except the assortment of colors and little lavender storage bag. I guess their target demographic for the ad was more interested in eye candy than anything else.
I wonder how many pink models are out there.
Yeah, true I guess but isn't that like creating a brochure for an iPhone & omitting to mention that it's a phone?
