Hello all. I've just come into a sony wm-fx85. i need gumstick batteries which should be relatively easy to obtain. what i'm having trouble with is finding a 9-pin remote. the unit does not have a headphone jack, i need a remote to plug headphones into. I'm not concerned with finding the exact proper one for this unit, I'm just looking for something that works. Any leads out there? I'm wondering if this type of connector was used on a lot of different walkmans. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

You will need the following:
the original remote (Sony OEM part number 146564911 or 1-465-649-11), found here: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=6199998368
AND
the stereo micro-plug to mini jack adaptor (Sony PC-MP1S) available from a few online stores located in Japan. Try amazon.co.jp .
Unless you live in Japan, japangoodsfinder.com or other similar service will be able to help (quite pricey...).
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Apologies. My mistake: taobao.com is an online auction site located in China, not Japan.

I feel that this silly connector is a rather poor design choice. While I do have a couple of the adapters required to use headphones other than the cruddy pack-ins, one wonders why they could not have included a proper headphone jack together with the remote connector. The only benefit I see is that you could purchase a new adapter if you break it.
Used in several 90s Sony machines, so you could look for some other similar 90s Sony machines with the rectangle jack, hopefully you could find one with the adapter.
