Units which I feel are mandatory for collectors to own i.e. to illustrate that they truly understand the hobby are these....

DD-9 (if you can find one)

WM-2 - Have one

A note on the WM-7, yes it's an interesting piece and a good looker but it doesn't represent any great breakthrough other than it's attempt to attract the 'audiophile' audience. And nearly everyone you find now is busted.
Thinking about it, it does deserve to be in the list, I forgot about it's logic controls and the auto reverse, oh, and the noise it makes, yeah Rich, you're right, it's in.

Sadly this auction is already too expensive. Despite it's WM-F1 name this unit isn't much more than a plastic tank.

Praise de lard. My favourite walkman gets some recognition. Mine, still sounds gorgeous, through the grado SR325`s.
