Do someone know where to get sony wm dd9
marrea - 2012-03-31 02:55
Hello everybody
I wonder where do i get a chance to buy a sony wm dd9?
Ebay dont have none left to sell.
toocool4 - 2012-03-31 04:36
ebay is the most obvious place that comes to mind, else it’s a case of seeing if anyone here has one to sell.
Why do you want one so much? They are good but not as good as people make them out to be. Unless you want one because you are a collector, if you want units that sound excellent get the D6C or DC2.
Because everyone wants DD9 they are over priced and in my opinion not worth the money.
radio.raheem - 2012-03-31 14:37
I agree with toocool....the dd9 is nothing special imho....i have 2 broken ones,,,,,one did work ....shows you how good they are

Thanks for your anserws!
My husband have had one in 23years and it is in mint condition and you only need 1regular battery AAAtype for several hours or days and i like the sound. But i have read your advice toocool4 about the sound and i,m waiting for my walkman D6C to arriwe from florida usa. i bought it from ebay28/3-2012.
And my husband dont let me borrow his dd9, thats why i want my own.I have read many of your anserws and i think that you have a nice or friendly way of giving advice to people here.so i thank you for your kindness and that you take time to anserw to my question.

Like all walkmans and most electronics, capacitors and rubber parts are going to be the two biggest issues, make sure it fully restore, that belts and capacitors were replaced, if you plan on using it for a while. Then you have some that the IC's fail and various components as far as the electronics goes, then you have to worry about plastic parts cracking, mostly problem with DD series. Best thing to do is stay away from DD series, even if restore as their more then just the center gear problem that cracks, I seen a huge number were various plastic parts and Supply Reel Pinion gear on the DD series cracks overtime. Buy those only if you are a serious collector and won't use as much. IE more for display, but don't recommend as a daily driver and yes that includes the DC2. The only three that I can recommend from the DD series that don't have these problems, is the D6, D6C and DD9 but read below.
I like the DD9, but like others said, not as reliable if not restored, but is the best sounding walkman, just not as loud. But uses two motors, so wow and flutter is not a issue, does use two small belts, capston to gear drive, but not a big deal to replace and transport built better then the other DD series, plus upgrades to preamp can be done. The best one for listening and reliability, would be to go with a D6C, just be careful with which revision you get!! Go with the later revision as it more reliable and use a glass epoxy circuit board instead of the old phenolic one. This greatly improves durability and reliability, But doesn't use a amorphous head, which is the trade off.
Now for the differents between the D6C's revisions "below"
The different between the D6C's the earily revision uses the better amorphous head. The newer revision I notice they replace it with a simpler, cheaper permalloy type. The later head is noticeably more wear prone and doesn't last as long. You can tell because they amorphous head script removed from the machine. Secondly, the printed circuit glass epoxy circuit board instead of the old phenolic one. This greatly improves durability and reliability and was re-design to use surface mounted components. These were much smaller than the types used originally, but more costly to service as most techs don't do SMD rework, but haven't seen to many of these fail etheir. The early revision has known issue with servo control IC IC601 (CX20084) off a seperate a 6V rail The servo circuit in the newer revision, uses mostly SMD components. The servocontroller is now a smaller 8 pin IC and is protected which is switched by several other transistors and a MOSFET, to prevent damage. But damage to the servo IC on the older model is cause by people plugging in the wrong adaptor and using a 9v instead of a 6v, due to it runs of the 6V rail directly, nothing protecting the IC .

I have to thank you also retrodos for your anserws to my questions.
But what to do when the parts gets old? where can you buy parts to these
walkmans?Who is good at fixing these machines and repair?
plop - 2012-04-01 09:43
There are a number of people around the world who still fix them. If you hang out in this forum you will in time find out who they are, or at least be able to contact them via people who do.
There are "consumable" parts such as capacitors and drive belts available with modern day equivalents. However other parts are a lot harder to source these days such as plastic trim and cases. Although not impossible to find, they most certainly won't be new and probably pulled from a junked unit. If they are NOS expect to pay $$$ and sometimes more than the price of another one.

I have to say that the DC2 is my everyday machine, I use it on my commute to work everyday. It is my first choice of unit to take out with me.
Yes the centre gear can be a problem, but since renzgi fixed some for me I have not had any problems.
MARREA you say your like the fact that the DD9 only uses a single AA battery, yes that is cool but it chews it up in no time at all, my one does. Also running on 1.5V means it cannot drive any headphone well, well maybe only easy to drive headphones I use it with a portable amp as I have difficult to drive headphones.

Hi MARREA ,
I'm the same opinion as toocool4 and I have some DC2 in use and in my collection.
Once repaired, the DC2 is very reliable.
I use my DC2 daily. To hear high quality recordings.
The battery consumption is very low.
The condenser at the DC2 has never made problems.
D6C is also good, but needs too much power!
If you really want to DD9, is the best if wait ,until the market calms again. I think ,in the summer holidays, the prices are slightly lower.
Also good is it to go to less well known platforms.
Good luck!

Yeah your right toocool4!
Ijust tought that claret badgers caufing is strange.
I joined this site because i felt that people were nice to each others here, and the moust people are.Ilike this site because everybody are like me collekting electronics that they like.and are helping other members on this site.I hope that i can help someone here in some way.
walkgirl - 2012-04-03 22:18
Thanks for your anserws!
And my husband dont let me borrow his dd9, thats why i want my own
That is not very nice!, just no dinner for a week and you can borrow as you like
toocool4 - 2012-04-03 23:27
I think Claret Badger’s cough cough’s is a funny way us English like to say someone please fix my broken gear for me, without actually saying fix it for me. Hope you understand our sense of humour, I hope this explanation works for you?
I think what walkgirl say’s is a good idea, but I think you should go a stage further. I think you should make his dinner, show it to him then give it to the dog so he can see what he is missing. Then tell if i can’t borrow your DD9 I will keep giving your dinner to the dog.
marrea - 2012-04-04 21:30
That was funny)).I,m not shore if i have the nerv to treat him that way))
but in my toughts i,m laughing to that picture i get in my head.
I know why he dont let me borrow it.He is a perfectionist everything must be perfect (even me).Not a single scratch is accepted,he has beeing sad if things gets scratched.
I always beeing very careful to handle things carefully. But i dont want to be nervous borrowing his things,it is simplier to get my own that i can enjoy listening to.
I got my walkman professional wm-d6c . it is in mint condition.
everything is ok on it,but its like a brick, almoust as heavy too.Nothing you go around carrying everywhere.
marrea - 2012-04-04 21:39
Thank you walkgirl and toocool4 for your support.
I have humour, but that kind of humour was new for me.
I see also one never gets too old to learn new things.

Hello everybody!
I'm also looking for some high quality sound walkmans (Sony, Aiwa, Panasonic etc). Top quality players like DD9, DC2 etc.
So if some members of this forum would like to sell this type of players - please let me know! And we will start conversation about deal !
