Finally found a working fully restored AIWA HS-JX707

retrodos - 2012-05-11 14:45

I bought this AIWA HS-JX707 off eBay, were the seller actually fully restored it to my standards and had some picture link of worked done, as been trying to find one for a while and bought 4 other junk ones sitting and unrepairable due to someone been inside and cause more damage then actually repairing it, if you want to call it that, as somehow they manage to break relay, lifted and burned traces on the PCB and ETC. So was tried of buying people trash, as this model people seem to love to tamper with for some reason? So gave up after a while.

Then when on eBay saw that he was local and claim to fully restore the walkman himseft, knowing how some people  do shoddy work, ask if he had any pictures of work done, then he link his flickr account to listing and I found the pictures and to my surprise, someone that actually knew what they were doing, cleanup acid and retinned pcb pads, installed right values and size capacitors, clean contacts and relube the transport, only were needed. Received it and works flawless and came clean no dust dirt and head and pinch rollers cleaned, very happy with the way this turn out. Think this seller actually deserved to get more, but do to the bad reputation of hack jobs done from other sellers, there wasn't that many bidders.

Good catch for that price.

Only thing to ask is what is the state of that ribbon cable at the door hinge? This model also suffers terribly from the ribbon cable splitting there. At first you get a kink, then a sharp crease, then a slight split starts at the edge and finally the split runs across the copper on the ribbon.

No wear mark or creases in tuner flex cable, first thing I checked.

Now that's a find! My recapped 707 still lies in bits until I can find a battery box and a new pinch roller assembly.

The most hilarious find I've found is an aiwa with LOTS of WD40 in it. "So, the reels do not turn... maybe it needs lubrication!"- clueless original owner

It's a bit of a rip off price, but this is what you are looking for.

Be quick though, 'cos I think Walkgirl is also after this for her boxed PX1000 too.

Thanks for reminding me, as I may have to leave that guy a negative and file a case, it been over a month and still haven't received the Panasonic battery clip yet and doesn't reply to emails. Also ask about info about another sony battery clip to see if it will fit a ex5 and haven't heard back seem like that seller doesn't like to disclosed all info on item.

I also do have extra aiwa battery clips.
