Duty is dependent on the destination country. So in the case of yourself, then I would suggest going to your country's customs website for further information.

Duty is always payable on certain items being imported to a country irrespective of its condition. For example if you brought a 3 year old Japanese import car into the country you would not expect to pay duty?
You may of course not pay the full amount of duty since the car is not new, as duty is relative to the value of the item you are bringing into the country. Therefore it is up to you to prove the value of the item to customs and for customs to be satisfied that the documentation supporting your declaration is valid.
There is a schedule set by the EU for the duty rate % for items imported into the EU.
In addition, you may also have to add VAT that is applicable in your country at the time of importation.

Relax....
For a walkman it is 0% duty in the EU. You only need to pay the VAT applicable in your country plus any shipper's fees for collecting the VAT for the government.

Even then, if you do not exceed certain limits, you may not even need to pay VAT.

i once paid tax, it was an item from the swiss. but from the usa, never paid tax. just send the item as a gift. it's stupid to pay for 2nd hand items.
