Does anyone knows the differences between these walkmans? They look almost the same. Differences include performances and so on.

It was somewhat common for larger mfg. companies to offer the same walkman with different model numbers to different regions. These models were almost always identical mechanically and cosmetically. On occasion the appearance might be differentiated by few different markings or color on outside. For Sony it was broken up into 4 regions for world. North America ( Canada and USA ) , UK, E (Europe), and AEP which I believe was for Orient and rest of world. I do not know the reason they did this maybe another member can shed some light on the why they sold same Walkman with different model numbers by regions.

Like John Edward said: the main reason due to different country regulations.
Major brands like AIWA, Sony, National, Sharp etc. made different type of players or models with some differences: like adding TV tuner for Japan and Asian markets. European countries had restrictions on radio devices interference's to health devices or other broadcasting devices and had to comply with the radio requirements of EEC directive. US regulations had to complied with the FCC regulations etc.

Both models are identical performance and mechanically. I have the service manual and it has BOTH models on the front. The WM-10RV was the North American released model designation. The WM-40 was for Europe and Asia. OF NOTE: the WM-40 came with the CTP-1A AM/FM tuner module but was ONLY released in Japan with this feature. Only the WM-40 with the Japanese characters and AM/FM on front can play the FM radio module. The FM tuner Japanese release model is exceedingly rare to find. I have one that was completely serviced , set up and new belt installed by retropcdos member here.
