This has got to be one of the rarest of the talking AIWAs (index.php?board_oid=193392314111653483&content_oid=258416601132551176) that there are.
I have never seen this one in this champagne gold colour, let alone complete with matching coloured battery box too.

Plop,
It is not champagne gold color, its plain silver. the light reflection makes it look like gold.
Also on the listing he calls it "platinum pearl". it is the same one I have and posted on the talking AIWAs post.
But you're right about the matching battery box.
plop - 2012-10-09 12:22
Perhaps it is the same as your one. Although you may consider otherwise previously, the silver one is the rarer colour than the black. To also have the battery box in the matching colour is extremely rare.
Certainly worthy a purchase for an avid collector such as yourself, John or Hugo.

I am not quite sure that this is a matched silver box, it looks like white to me or gray - that belongs to a white PX70 player. Mine was boxed with a black battery box.
I am sure Hugo is already on top of it

I think you may be right. I can't remember where, but I may have seen a PX70 in a grey colour and also a green battery box with a green PX610. So I think this photo is the result of a marriage of two different walkmans to produce this unusual colour combination.
This is a nice photo of the silver JX70 and RX70 along with the somewhat out of place PL77.
The PL77 looks the navy blue one I have. I recognise it from the light blue Dolby logo.

Yup, would definitely need re-capping and belt would be shot too.
thelion - 2012-10-09 12:56
OK.. I got it! now I remember, it was taken from a white PX610! Aiwa started to make'em in matching colors since 1993~4 and on.
Here is another HS-PX820:

I could do with that battery box for my PL77. The PX610 is basically a stripped down version of it.

Plop, I am expecting one in the mail in a few days, I can send it to you if you like, but I am not 100% sure about the color.
plop - 2012-10-09 13:40
That's very kind of you to offer it.
thelion - 2012-10-09 13:50
Sure, that's no problem. what are we here for? to share aren't we?

It's ended at a good price ~$102, given how rare it is and in that colour too.

That's right: the golden color is caused by the light. The seller may have bulbs as light font and he is not adjusting manually the white balance of his camera. This often cause the camera not to properly correct the warm coloration of bulb lighting.
But also, he has set it to auto mode, reason why every photo has different coloration: some are golden, some silver.
That kind of lighting remembers me the one used by 'famous' seller 'Mediterrano71': two bulbs each side...

Haha, you have indeed an eye on us! ;-)
Although I don't find that RX70 to be such interesting. I prefer the JX70 over it, but I don't have any yet.
retrodos - 2012-10-16 16:02
Just hope no one was inside it, as I am the one that won it. Have the JX70 is a better japan model, but the best one was the JX929 which has AM stereo, as AM stereo was popular in Japan.
plop - 2012-10-16 16:25
Yup. I prefer the JX929 out of all of them. It is the most feature packed of all the talking AIWA - and presumably also the last one too that AIWA made with the voice navi.
walkman.archive - 2012-10-16 16:57
The JX929 is indeed an interesting walkman, as it packs the most complete set of features ever seen on a walkman.
Here's mine:
And here you can see it beside the well-known JX707:

@Hugo
How does the build quality of your example of the JX929 compare to any of the JX707 that you have? My JX929 seems to be better put together than them. When I got my JX929 the heads are correctly aligned on both sides, the belt was still intact and supple, and no discernible (by ear) of any impending electronic (capacitor) failure.
walkman.archive - 2012-10-17 03:08
@Plop: Looks like the only problem is the belt; everything except it seems to work perfectly: volume knob, radio, BBE, DSL (although not very powerful)...

Looks like it has now been serviced and back on the market again.
